Survey says.....

This week I spent a lot of time trying to think of the perfect blog post to start 4th quarter.  Since we are studying genetics, I thought about some common questions that you might have....

Why are there gingers?
What causes eye color?
What determines personality:  nature or nurture?

Let me tell you, the list was long.  However, I couldn't decide on the perfect post.  So I thought I would let you tell me what you would like to write about.  Similar to Family Fued, you will write a list this week of the three things that you would most like to write about between now and the end of the school year.  Of course, the last two units are genetics and evolution so your topics should be related to them please.

Just like Family Fued:)

  1. I'm a big fan of our genetics unit, so my question are mostly based off genetics.

    1. What makes some traits more dominant than others?
    2. Are dominant traits always beneficial? Is it better to have a certain trait dominant than its recessive?

And one evolution question cause why not:

    3. Are humans still evolving? If so, is there a chance we will evolve into a completely different species like Darwin's theory?

    1. I have never thought about human evolution. If we as humans are truly on the path to a greater destiny, could this all just a phase of being?

  2. 1. Evolution of animals to survive
    2. Evolution of animals that were alive when the dinosaurs were around and are now
    3. Genetic combos (blue eyes and brown hair, etc.)

  3. Why do they teach evolution if it’s just a theory?
    Did we evolve from apes?
Can you permanently change your genetics?

  4. I would like to write about...
    1) How does genetics relate to evolution?
    2) Build your own dinosaur with genetics (like the coin lab)
    3) How does genetics factor into psychology? (Are sociopathic tendencies genetic?)

  5. 1. Build your own monkey with genetics (like the coin lab)
    2. How similar are the genetics from a human to a monkey?
    3. What species are closely related in genetics like monkeys and humans?

    1. I think these are great questions that hold many interesting answers.

  6. The three topics I would like to write a blog post on are: Do certain genetic traits like hair or eye color have different purposes or strengths? How have species like the horseshoe crab remained relatively unchanged over time if evolution and natural selection are a constant and never ending process? If there can be a 64 box Punnett square, what would the square for every trait look like, and what is the chance that you become you?

  7. 1. Is there any correlation between two or more traits? (ex. if you have blue eyes your tall, if you have brown hair your short, etc.)

    2. Can a species survive without having to evolve?

    3. Can evolution happen over a short period of time? (like a year or less)
