Can YOU save the world?

Watch the video clip below:

For Friday, you need to write a discussion response to the video and the following questions.  Again this post will be worth 10 points.  Be sure to write a scholarly response.  Think about what you are writing and proofread it before you submit it to be published.

How are we going to tell the public about endangered species?  Pick a specific species that you are interested in or passionate about.  How can you help to save that species?  Describe the species, the habitat and the threat for survival.  What can you do to get people involved?

  1. There are many problems in this world, one of them being the endangered species of our world. It is a very big issue, and few seem to notice or even acknowledge it. The video here really is motivational, in a way that really shows us that awareness is really the key to saving these species. The man in this video talks about all the different things that he might do to raise the awareness. He talks about even letting people see what they don't want to see, letting them see the unpleasant side of nature itself and what we are doing to it. Awareness really is everything when it comes to saving such species. Whales, for example, are endangered. Not only are they critical to the ecosystem they take part in, but they are colossal in size, and for that matter, very intriguing to us humans. Wouldn't it be a shame if these magnificent creatures ceased to exist? Perhaps showing the public, or even motivating with them with some facts or even evidence that the unnecessary deaths are occurring. Whaling, ship collisions, or even poisoning the water can pose threats towards whales, and these are all things caused by humans. But we are unaware of what we are doing, and that is the key: raising awareness will definitely help the endangered nature of many species decrease.

    1. I agree with you when you say that the kay to saving these animals is awareness. If we were aware of how our actions are hurting the animals, we would have been able stop and save them a long time ago.

    2. The topic of how to raise awareness is somewhat of a mystery. I believe that if we can get all of the high schools in Illinois to watch this video, we can make a difference, put it on facebook and youtube and share itbring it out for the public to see.

    3. The topic of sharing this with the world can be solved with enough people involved. If we can get all the schools in Illinois to watch this video we can make a difference by social media standpoints.

  2. Every time I go to the zoo my favorite animal to visit is the Clouded Leopard. The Clouded Leopard is found in Asia, from the Himalayan Mountains( Nepal to India) to Northern China. They have been hunted and killed for their soft, beautiful coats for hundreds of years. The best way to tell the public about these amazing animals is though photographs, most people need to see it to believe it. Once people have the knowledge they have the choice to spread the word or donate to WWF and other organizations that work on saving endangered species.
The best way to save the Clouded Leopards is to spread the word and/or donate to organizations that can make it illegal to poach and kill Clouded Leopards.

    1. That's a good idea Kaetlyn but the main place where the poaching happens is in 3rd world countries. where there are lower standards.

    2. I agree with Kaitlyn 100% that we should reach out to organizations that can help stop the hunting of endangered animals because us humans are the main reasons these species are going extincted.

      Delete
    3. I full on agree with Kaetlyn, but peter does have a point, because most of the poaching doesn't happen here in America. So i think the question is, how can we stop the poaching from happening in other countries?

      Delete
    4. I fully agree on Katelyn. We should recognize and reach out to other people that are willing and wanting to help save endangered species. I also agree with her that the main reason they are going extinct if because of us humans.

  3. From Joel Sartore's presentation, a new light has been introduced to me. I have always been aware that there have been issues within the environment, though it is astonishing that so many species and populations are deflating due to both our impact and Earth's natural influence. To make the public aware of endangered species, bringing the issue straight up would be best. With pictures corroborating how our ecosystems are being effected, even with staring off by notifying the people we care about, the community will band together and provide stronger support towards those with higher status. One of Earth's organisms is the North Spotted Owl; they are a threatened species that live inside old forests that encompass many tree species, groves, and canopies in Oregon, Washington, California, and British Columbia. Because they are territorial and intolerant of having a disturbed habitat, it is important to keep these 150 and older ages forests alive, especially when these owls hunt for small insects and rodents throughout the night. As iterated, the best way to save this species is through preserving the oldest forests and prevent them from being cut down. To get the community involved, by showing pictures of destroyed habitats and enforcing the importance of how these owls live, they will have some form of awareness. Beginning steps may be small, yet once the community bounds together and brings more attention to this species, simple things such as recycling and spreading the word will provide the best starting point towards impeding the extinction of the Northern Spotted Owl.

  4. There are so many animal lovers in this world. Yet not a lot of them know that species are becoming endangered faster and faster. To get their attention we need to do something that will show them just how big of an issue it is. Maybe show them the damage in pictures, videos, or maybe even just showing them by comparing the amount of the species a long time ago to the amount of animals in the species now. My favorite animal is an owl and I would be devastated if they became endangered or extinct. Usually they are from places with forests or where there is a large amount of trees. They are very cute and interesting animals and I think it would be terrible not to help them, or any other species, from being endangered. I think the owls have many dangerous threats. First of all there are some people who hunt owls perhaps for food or maybe to stuff them. Also dogs and other animals can attack them for food decreasing the amount of owls constantly. To help save this species, I think we could make more laws about protecting birds that are not meant to be hunted. To get people involved we could show the decreasing amount of owls and try to motivate them to spread the word that we can make a difference in how long this species will last.

  5. that is very cool and he is very right most Americans don't care unless it directly influences there wallet or security. that's not to say we are the worst many countries do this knowingly at least our country is unaware of this issue as a country. many other countries kill these creatures just to survive and get money.

  6. After watching this video, it really inspired me to try to make a difference in the existence of these endangered species. To get the public involved, I think we just need to spread the word. Maybe have some sort of charity event to help raise money and awareness about these helpless animals. What really caught my eye in this video were the koalas.
"Koalas are endangered because their natural habitats and forests are being destroyed by humans as they seek resources or living space and pollution of their environment by non-biodegradable materials. Koalas are also hunted for their fur." It was said koalas will be extinct in 7 years. 7 years!! That does not give us much time as a community to get everyone in to join and make a difference. For the koalas sake, or another endangered species. Also, we can protest to make the hunting of koalas illegal, all around the world.

  7. After watching this video, it truly inspired to me to help the existence of these endangered species. To get people to notice, I think we need to spread the word. By that, we should have a charity event to help donate to special causes and to spread awareness about all the endangered species and what we can do to help and make a difference. During this video, what really caught my eyes were the Koalas.
"Koalas are endangered because their natural habitats and forests are being destroyed by humans as they seek resources or living space and pollution of their environment by non-biodegradable materials. Koalas are also hunted for their fur." It was said koalas should be extincted in 7 years. 7 years!! That barley gives us enough time as a community to have an impact in saving the species. But there's always hope. To help we can always donate to organizational funds that will provide research and trips to find out more on what we can do to one day save the koalas species from becoming extincted. Also, we can write letters and argue to the government to make hunting koalas illegal all around the world. The slightest things we can do to help can make the biggest impacts

  8. There are so many endangered species on this earth, and picking one seems impossible, however, I am particularly passionate about saving the Siberian tiger. Originating in eastern Asia, these animals have coveted hides and have been hunted for decades. Many people have forgotten about them and abandoned hope of saving them due to how few there numbers have become. I believe the first step towards saving this species is educating people on what is happening to it, and making them believe that even though there aren't many left, they still have a chance. By informing people on the tiger's situation it is possible to create new activists to help the cause by donating or volunteering with PETA or the WWF. Both of these organisations can help to influence the survival of any animal and would make a huge difference in the Siberian Tiger's chances.

  9. We have to tell the public about these endangered species by telling why we need to help them. You can show depressing pictures of dead koalas but the public needs a reason to care, how would they benefit by helping this endangered species. I believe if we explain how bats eat bugs that eat our crops or that whales are really important to the marine ecosystem because they are the top of the food chain. Most people don't know about that and we need to advertise those facts instead of making the public feel pity.
I personally love pandas. But pandas are hunted for their fur and since pandas are so big and lazy lots of them are killed accidentally. Their habitats are being destroyed because of building and developments and these poor pandas are being driven out of their environments. In order to help save them we should donate to WWF because they are currently working on monitoring their habitats and creating laws to protect them from hunters. I think if I explained to people that pandas are important because they spread seeds in the forests and are important to the ecosystem there maybe people will listen and donate.

  10. If we sit back and watch the populations of animals or insects dwindle down soon many of them will become extinct. Many people will not take action unless they are moved or effected in a way by the loss of these creatures it would be our responsibility to inform and teach the public of what is going on. Tigers are currently endangered one way I could help save them is inform people of what is going on and what would be causing it, so if they were doing something to harm the population they could stop. Hopefully this will motivate them to do something. There is currently 5 or 6 subspecies of tigers combined there are 3,200 remaining in the world. Tigers can range from 660-200 lb. The main threat to the population is illegal hunting for their pelts, meat and other body parts.

  11. One way we could inform the public about certain endangered species would be showing them how helpful they are to the environment or explaining why we need to save them. An animal that interests me is the manatee. A manatee is a sea mammal and it is also called a sea cow. Manatees have a life span of 40-60 years, but they are usually killed for their hides, oil, and bones. Even though now they are protected by laws they are killed frequently by either getting run-over by a motor boat or getting caught up in a fishing line. Also during a red tide in Florida around 240 manatees were killed. However the is hope for the manatees, there are multiple groups trying to save them including the WWF and the SMC. So if you are interested in saving manatees then you should donate to them.

  12. One species that is definitely near extinction is the armur leopard. I say this because there are only at least 30 individuals left in the entire world. If no one does anything about this soon, the armur leopard will be no more. But, I think if I would step in and make a change, the armur leopard will have a bigger chance of its species surviving. I can introduce this species to the public by creating posters and hanging them around the community, create a website, and start collecting/giving donations to another existing foundation.
The armur leopard is a magnificent creature, and it would be tragic to see this species leave the planet for good. The reason this leopard is disappearing from the planet is because people are hunting and killing it for their precious fur. some undercover investigating by some protecting the animal foundation led to finding several armur leopard skins hanging up for sale in the 'black market'. the leopard's skins costas much as $1000! I don't think $1000 is worth losing such a big predator!
the armur leopard lives in forests that are broad-leafed. the kind of prey the armur leopard hunts on are any wild deer it can find throughout the forest.
I know what you're thinking. why do armur leopards matter? well, they matter a whole lot. they are extremely important to our ecosystems, and it benefits the armur tiger species.
I believe that with the right conservation efforts, we can bring this species back and ensure that the life of the armur leopard will continue and thrive.

    1. Wow. Only 30? That's insane. And I agree, a species is worth more than 1000. Again, we need to make priorities, and figure out that we need to stop.

  13. Maybe it is because I go to central but an endangered species I am interested in is the Sumatran Tiger. The Sumatran Tiger is smallest surviving sub species of the tigers. It lives on the island of Sumatra. That is the only place where tigers, rhinos, orangutans, and elephants live together. 78% of tigers in sumatra are killed by poaching for trade. By protecting tigers and their environment it benefits us and other species. We can help this species by teaching people about what is happening to them. One day this species may become extinct, so people need to start getting involved with trying to push people who are control of the laws to make better laws about endangered species. ways to get the public involved are telling them we can't do this with out them and explaining how these species may die out. A lot of different kinds of tigers are on the endangered species list and it would be crazy if there were no such thing as tigers any more because that is Centrals mascot. How do yo grow up knowing and learning about an animal that will some day not exist?

    1. I totally agree with your thought on how are we going to teach future generations about an animal that is extinct, but I feel like just trying to get the public to care about the tigers might not be enough to save them. Great Job Katy!

    2. It's horrible to think that 78% of these tigers are being poached and killed. I agree- it would be crazy if tigers were extinct! We definitely need to take action.

    3. I agree! We definitely need to teach people about what is happening to the tigers and make them care so we can save them. It would be horrible if they were to go extinct, and if they did, the kids in the future would never get to see them in person. They would only ever get to hear of them, or maybe see them in zoos, which makes me sad.

  14. I was devastated when i saw the picture of the dead mother and baby koalas. It broke my heart, and it inspired me to make other people aware of this so that they know what we are doing to the world. To get people to know more about endangered species, I would show them this video because it is so motivating, and only a cold hearted person would deny what is happening and not care about it.
I love every animal, but i've heard that koalas have been on the endangered list for a long time, and I know that one day that will change. Koalas are endangered because their natural habitats, forests, are being destroyed by us, humans, so we can build more living space and buildings; and like tigers, koalas are being killed for their fur. Animals are also becoming extinct because we are polluting the air. So one way i could get involved would be to reduce, reuse, and recycle. I could also save energy by turning off lights and turning off the water when i brush my teeth. I am really glad that i got to watch this video, because i never knew there were that many endangered species out there, and it makes me want to become a better person, so that i can help save the world.

  15. My favorite endangered species are Manatees. Probably because when I was in Florida, a manatee ran into my kayak, and tipped me over. And it was like swimming with a whale! He swam away after a min, but it was a really cool experience. But they are all going extinct from human causes. Arnt they all? We need to make priorities. Because at the moment, we are killing off species, for money and space. Some even for jewelry. This video needs to be shown to everyone, so they know what they are doing, and how they can prevent it.

  16. The species I find most interesting is the manatee. I knew they were endangered, and this video brought it back to my attention. When I lived in Florida for a short time, I visited the zoo a lot, and from there I learned that the population of manatees are shrinking even more each year, from red tide, ships hitting them and other human-causes. Manatees are really cool creatures, and it's sad that they are dying off. I think the main thing people can do is donate every time you get a chance, and just be cautious when you are on the water.

  17. The species I find most interesting is Sumatran orangutan. Ever since I was a little kid I loved them. I forgot that orangutans are endangered. That breaks my heart. I would always visit them at the zoo. Orangutans help spread seeds throughout the rain forest and if they were to disappear then certain types of trees will disappear. People need to understand that we need to help keep orangutans alive and make it so they are mo longer endangered. Orangutans are losing their habitat due to fire and conversion of forests to oil palm plantations and other agricultural development. We need to find a way to help orangutans from losing their habitat. Ways I would help spread the word and get more people involved is to tell them what's going on. I would also show them what is happening and why it is. I will tell them that you can adopt an orangutan and to donate money. We need to inform people about what's going on. We need to make them care.

  18. There are so many animals becoming endangered and it's because people just care enough to think about what they are doing or what this animals does for that ecosystem. We need to get this through to everybody and once they see just how cool some of these animals are, some of them might just think about what they re doing before killing these animals.
The one species that I thought interested me the most was the koala. Seeing that picture of all of those dead koalas laying their made me sick. Why would people do that just so they can get a picture out. To get people to think about the species and save them could be to get some really cute pictures of them so they can see how special these animals are. The koala is getting killed off because us humans are destroying their habitat and giving the no place to live. They want more space for buildings or just kill them for their fur. before watching this video I never thought about all of the endangered species and it helped me find out that we need to do something about it. Other people that know about these species should tell people to spread the word and get some donations to come in. Don't you want your kids to grow up seeing all of the wild animals like we do now?

  19. Telling the public about endangered species is vital if we want them to survive. In order to grab their attention, you need to tell them the story of what is happening on this planet. You need to inform them about the exotic and interesting things out there. If you want people to care, get them to think by telling them how important these animals are, and how they impact medical research and so on. Showing dramatic pictures of these endangered animals can help catch a person’s attention long enough for them to learn a little about what is going on and how they can help. A species I am interested in is the Koalas. Koalas live in eastern Australia, where their main source of food, the eucalyptus tree, thrives. In fact, they rarely leave these trees. During the day they doze off, sleeping for up to 18 hours. These cuddly mammals were widely hunted during the 1920s and 1930s, and their populations plunged. Today, their populations are smaller and scattered. Koalas need a lot of space—about a hundred trees per animal. This is a pressing problem, as Australia's woodlands continue to shrink. I can help this endangered species by creating a blog or website that spreads the word about the danger these animals are in. One way to do get other people involved is to put up flyers at your school about a club that helps save endangered species. This way you can get a group of people who care about this topic and you can start helping the animals who are in jeopardy. You can also have a bake sale or fundraiser, and donate the money you make to a club or association that helps save these endangered species.

  20. I think it is truly horrifying that animals are treated so cruelly and are close to being endangered. A species that I find interesting are the koalas. These unfortunate animals are attacked by dogs, hit with diseases and the worst part of this is, that not many humans are willing to help and save these animals. The only way that I believe to be efficient to save these animals is to raise awareness of these species that are close to being endangered. If we were to do what National Geographic is doing, and inform more people about the situations these animals are facing and how they are such an important part of our ecosystem, I'm sure it would evoke the humanity in people, and they would do their part in saving these animals. Also, if we would stop poaching animals for selfish gains such as fur and bones, we would realize how crucial these species are to our ecosystem. We don't ever take the time to realize the impact that these animals have, and how it would impact us all if these animals went extinct. If we did, then I'm sure we would be able to save many of the animals that are endangered.

  21. A species I am interested in is the Conquerel's sifaka. Better known as the lemur in the tv show Zoboomafoo, these small lemurs are very endangered. They are from the island Madagascar and are so called because of the unique call they make: "shif-auk". There are 3 different species of sifaka: the Conquerels's sifaka, diademed sifaka, and golden sifaka. Sifakas come in many different colors and live in small family groups of 3-10. They can leap across trees at distances up to 30 feet! These cute and amazing creatures are in danger from deforestation where they live and some species are even hunted for meat, although local Malagsy tradition says it is bad luck to do so. Aside from that sifakas only have one baby a year which realIy cuts down on oppurtunities to bump up the population. I think a new way to get the word out would be through social media. So many people use facebook, twitter, instagram, etc. and would probably be very interested in the plight of the sifaka and other endangered species. They can also donate to organizations like DLC (the Duke lemur center) or National Geographic.

  22. Animals everywhere are facing major problems in what we humans find easy to do; surviving. Animals like the lion are feared and idolized yet are being killed right under our noses. So what can you do to help? Awareness of the problem is the first step and by joining a local charity and donating money for awareness is the perfect way to do it. The lion lives in the deserts of Africa where they normally live hunting for prey and raising their young. However fearsome, cattle herders nearby are ready to take action as they begin the lions become a problem to them. Poisoning them, it is predicted that they will die off in that area in about 10-15 years. By killing them it leaves the rest of the lions prey free to produce and expand, changing the ecosystem around the area more than they could have known. Saving the lions around the area is a little easier said than done. One thing that could be done developing a temporary spray that they could drive off the lions if they come near the herd. Just as National Geographic did with the Koala’s pictures and heartwarming stories seem to be a large and effective way to get people involved. Like they say, “the first step to solving a problem is to realize that you have one”. This couldn't be anymore true in this situation. With support, awareness, and different strategies, humans can do what it takes to save our wildlife.

  24. This video of Joel Sartore is incredible. His theory of showing humans what they don't want to see in order to see what they are doing has really opened my eyes to the oblivious state I've been in when it comes to endangered species. I know that one animal I've always been passionate about is the Siberian Tiger found in Eastern Russia. I was always amazed by their beauty and what really captivates me about these animals is how strong they are. After all they are often at the top of the food web and they are the largest cats. Yet, there's only over 500 of these stunning creatures left. This, in my opinion is because of the work of humans. Due to poaching and destruction of the forests in which they habitat, these animals have been victims of human's unkind nature. In order to save endangered species, including my favorite Siberian Tiger, I feel that all of us have to follow in Mr. Sartore's footsteps and spread the word through pictures and articles that really make the humans aware of what they are doing. Donations can also be made to make these animals thrive again. I am willing to help out and I help many others are too. After all, big changes start with small steps.

  25. The endangered species that I find most interesting and that I am most passionate about is the great white shark. A 2010 study of the sharks showed that the population of the great white shark was lower than 3,500 worldwide. That's about the same range as the tiger. The sharks are fished for because people use their jaws, fins, and teeth. People should try and get involved and spread the word about sharks and all other endangered species so we can try to help save them. People shouldn't focus on just one species but all of them. People should try to help out in whatever way they can like donating money or even their time to help protect the species.

  26. I have always found a love for Polar Bears. They aren't super endangered but enough to make the endangered species list. Polar Bears are at the top of the food chain, and live in the arctic. Their diets consist of mostly seals and fish. When food supply runs low Polar Bears are forced to eat rodents and even human garbage. But thats not the only reason they are endangered. They live where most of the surface to walk on is ice. With increased temperatures the ice is melting causing the bears to have to swim, all the time. Which isn't ideal. So they will most likely drown. The increased temperatures are from global warming. Which humans can keep under control, saving the Polar Bear population. Simple things like cutting out how much you use your car can start a trend and make a difference. One way we can help the Polar Bears is by photographing them. Like in the video. Those pictures really grabbed my attention. So taking photos of them in their environment could be done to help bring attention to Polar Bears.

  27. One of the animals I'm most intrigued about is the elephant. They're one of the largest land animals and yet they're being killed off daily. Currently there are laws banning the hunting of elephants in countries in Africa, but they're being seriously ignored. In order to try and stop the death of this animal we as a country need to join other countries and enforce the laws about banning elephant hunting. We need to realize that this is our future and that we're killing an important part of the food chain. The man in the video even said, "most American don't care unless it directly effects their wallet or their safety." Well this does affect their wallet. Many things currently are being made from ivory, which is the tusks of elephants. Things like piano keys and pool balls are currently made from ivory. We could be saving not only money but elephants if we changed ivory to things like plastic, such as piano keys. Are we really that selfish that we're willing to kill off a species just to play a silly game? or just so we can spend more money out of our pockets so our piano keys are consider "nicer"?

  28. The people of the world are completely clueless about how much of an affect these endangered species play a roll on our lives. If we informed every citizen about these animals, chances are they will attempt to do something. We could get ad's in the daily paper, commercials on channels like ABC, news stories about the population decreases. Any little thing that can be said or done will have an impact on at least 1 person. The thing is, no one right now cares about these animals, only their selfish selves. My favorite endangered species, that i would like to save, like many others, is the Manatee. But more specifically the Florida Manatee. When I took a trip to Florida this summer, we made a last minute decision to stop by a city near Tampa where you could actually swim with wild Manatee's. Originally I thought that it would be pointless and we would see nothing. As it turns out it was probably one of the most fun experiences that i will ever encounter. Manatee's are so docile and playful it is unbelievable. When the tour guide spotted a Manatee we would slowly make our way into the water to the friendly giant. The 1,500 pound beast would look intimidating but really it was just like a monstrous dog. They swim around the group and nudge into you in a playful way making the intimidation factor go away. Even a mother with its about 2 year old son would have no problem with you petting the baby. Their body type is large with a rounded sort of tail that looks like a paddle. Every time they come up for air which is between every 2 and 5 minutes they make a grunting noise and just float back down. As for ways that we can save these one of a kind animal are little things such as; not dumping waste and plastic into lakes where they can live. Many Manatee deaths are from them getting tangled in old plastics and waste. Manatee's are also struck by boaters which can be fatal if taken a hit to the head or almost any where else. The boats propellers can leave permanent marks which can cause infection or immediate death. If you see a Manatee being unlawfully attacked or captured or one just in stress you should get help immediately as they are poached quite a lot, which is another big threat. Many people think that Manatee's live solely on salt water, which is incorrect. Many are found and live in canals which are half salt water and half freshwater. Some live in spring fed lakes with some ocean water feeding into it as it was where i was with the Manatee's. They live in waters that vary in temperate but usually in the 68 degree to 72 degree water temperature. These creatures are barely still a species at 4,834 Florida Manatees estimated left. Manatee's are omnivores which eat sea weed and get the little crayfish and other little meaty bug/insects that inhabit the sea weed and vegetation on the lake/ocean floor. They chomp threw it and the little creatures inside it are eaten too. It is so easy to get involved with saving the Manatee's. Little things that Florida residents can do like cleaning the garbage out of their habitat or donating to an organization that helps save the Manatee's. Even just telling someone about how great of an animal it is can make a difference. If you tell the right person they will tell the next person and then the next and then everyone will be informed about the Manatee.

  29. My favorite species is the sumatran elephants. I've known that elephants have been endangered for a long times because i saw it at the zoo awhile ago. These elephants are being threatened by human who keep destroying the forests that they live in. The elephants help the ecosystem by taking seeds with then where they travel causing the seeds to be carried around and planted somewhere else. This helps the forest thrive. I think the public needs to be aware of what is happening to these elephants. I think the best way to tell the public is to show more T.V. shows that show what is happening to this elephant and what they can do to help.I can help by raising awareness of this problem.

  30. After watching this video, I remembered an animal I have been interested in, the aye aye. The reason why this animal is so endangered is partly because of it’s almost alien-like appearance. The aye aye is from Madagascar and the native tribes there have superstitions that the aye aye is a symbol of death. If seen, they are killed on sight, or else they are thought to cause bad luck or even death. There are approximately 100 to 1000 left in the wild. Another reason why the aye aye is critically endangered is that they are easy targets. They are not typically shy around humans, and don’t have much defense. Although it could be difficult, i think a way to prevent this species from extinction, is to try to familiarize the public with the species, and possibly prove that they are basically harmless. This animal is also hard to save since familiarizing the tribes would involve changing long held cultural beliefs, but also teaching the locals to breed them in captivity to return them into the wild could teach them to trust them. Generally speaking, I think that people need to be educated on what’s happening in the world so they will know to help.

  31. Every year, the human community becomes more unaware with the topic " endangered animals." Many think that the animals will "rebound". Having stable populations like they once did before is not going to happen if society keeps advancing and destroying other organism's population that get in the way. For example, the Sumatran tiger is becoming extinct because of poachers that show no mercy towards killing this endangered cat and deforestation, which is causing them to lose their habitats. By showing the public that were not only taking away homes, but also killing the animals for profit, will inform them about how our species is hurting the less dominate ones.
The Sumatran tiger got me thinking. The only way to help endangered species like the Sumatran tiger, is to get yourself and others involved. One thing I can do is speak up for the Sumatran tiger who are constantly being threatened by poachers. Writing a letter to the government, asking them to increase law enforcement will help find poachers before they strike. Another idea I could use to get the public involved is having them ask questions and learn more about a wildlife product before they buy it. This idea will help reduce buying illegal wildlife products that our in high demands. The Sumatran is known for its black and orange stripes and is a relative to the Javan and Balinese tigers (which are now both extinct). Their habitats are forests on the island of Sumatra, but due to deforestation and poachers these orange and black carnivores can't live life. These animals deserve to live as much as humans do.

    1. I agree. I feel that most people do know what endangered animals are, but don't understand the importance to take action immediately. They think that the idea of animals becoming extinct is too far-fetched to believe.

  32. I’ve always been interested in Orangutans. Whether it’s the funny name or their unique color, I’m not sure, but they’ve always caught my eye when looking at the rather massive list of endangered species. The Orangutan’s problem, like thousands of others, is caused by humans. In their case, destruction and degradation of the tropical rainforest is the main reason they are threatened with extinction. Orangutans spend most of their lives in trees, so cutting down the rainforest means cutting down their entire habitat, making them homeless and left for dead. There’s only a few thousand orangutans left in the wild, and their numbers are still in severe decline. In a couple of years in the future, they’ll all be gone. There’s only one way to stop this from happening-- reverse the damage that humans have done. But first, we must inform people. Well, how do we do that? Isn’t it obvious? The man in the video mentioned that humans are too consumed in their own lives and social media to care about what doesn’t affect their lives directly. We need to raise awareness by using social media to catch people’s attention and make them care. If humans cared about endangered species as much as they did about money and their own luxury, then there wouldn’t be any endangered species at all. But then again, we don’t live in a perfect world.

  33. This video is inspiring, but sad. Everything he said was true. Nowadays all the general public cares about is "what is on their cell phones at a stop light." Honestly, this is frustrating. Is there any way that we can get the word out to people and make them actually care? Pictures are a good way, but they just don't seem to be working. We don't really realize the gravity of the situation. Most people think that we have all of the time in the world, when in reality we don't. Extinction is a major problem that desperately needs to be addressed. We can't keep using up our resources and thinking that there aren't any consequences. Take the koala for example. When we think about Australia and koalas we think about the desert, kangaroos, and the forests where these animals are naturally found, not suburbs and cities. A lot of people don't realize that their habitat is being destroyed, and not slowly. The koala population is being decimated by buildings, cars, cities- you name it, it is probably affecting the population, and not in a good way. Their habitats and food source are being diminished. The eucalyptus forests of mainland and eastern Australia are slowly disappearing, and koalas are being forced elsewhere. Like the video said, where are they supposed to go, the ninth hole on the golf course? They are cuddly and cute- everyone loves koalas- but what are we going to do in twenty years when the only individuals of this adorable species are the ones in zoos and laboratories, or even worse, people's pets! We cannot keep refusing to acknowledge the insane amount of endangered species. Someone needs to act before it is too late for koalas and every other species for that matter.

  34. To tell the public of endangered species and truly make them interested in what someone has to say about them, there must be a lot of persuasion. One species I have always been interested in is the tiger. The tiger is a mammal that is native to mostly Asia, living in warm rain forests and cold climates as well. To save this species, it is as simple as leave them and their habitat alone. Hunters specifically go into their habitat to kill tigers for their skins, so either these hunters must be dealt with more strictly or they have to be truly understanding of the tigers overall stance in wildlife. Many species of tigers have already gone extinct, such as the Caspian tiger, or the Balinese tiger. Tigers are the top hunter in their habitat, as they are much bigger, have sharp teeth, and are overall made to kill. Currently, there are only about 3200 subspecies of tigers all together, out of the 100,000 that were alive 100 years ago. To get people involved, First, the facts must be put forth to the people unaware of the harm that is being done by humanity. After that, it is up to the people to truly decide what is truly worth it, killing the tigers for their skins and bones, or savoring the beauty and uniqueness in which they put outward.

  35. Telling the public about anything is simple enough. You air a news program, put it in the paper, or even hold local events for endangered species awareness. Telling anybody anything is rarely a problem. Having the public listen to what you have to say is a whole different ballpark. To have people listen requires drama. The news, papers, radio, and television all have to be bombarded with new about endangered species, and what we aren't doing to protect them.

Species like the Persian Leopard are endangered because of things like deforestation which, destroys both their habitat, and a source of food for the leopards. There isn't a surplus of forests to be chopped down in the Middle East to begin with, and destroying the few that are left make life near impossible for the Persian Leopard. Poaching for the skin, meat, and teeth of the leopards makes a significant impact on the population. If the poaching of these animals were to stop, then there will be a significant rise in the population of Persian Leopards in the next few decades. Expanding farmlands acts much like the deforestation. It decreases the amount of natural prey available to the leopard, making the ecosystem a much harsher place for it to survive.

Currently, the persian loepards are spread mainly through Iran, but a few are remaining in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and the North Caucasus regions of Russia. The best short-term way to help them would be to fund the areas surrounding them. By giving substantial funds to the surrounding nations, it would boost the economy, providing better living conditions, and lessening the need to poach these animals. However, it is unlikely that sufficient funds are available to do this. Another way to increase the Persian Leopard population would be to set up protected areas for the species to live and reproduce. This would hopefully prevent poaching, but there is no guarantee.

As for what I can do as an individual, I would be able to donate to the World Wildlife Federation, an organization whose goal is to protect and rehabilitate species back into abundance. I could hold awareness events, and educate my local community about the dangers that endangered species go through. Hopefully, adults will go home and tell their children about the endangered species and since children are the future of the world, the world will become a much safer place

  36. I think that a way to get people to listen and care about endangered species is by teaching others how their extinction can change their everyday lives. For example, lets look at the tiger. They used to flourish and keep the ecosystem in order, but in recent years, poaching them for their pelts and for medicine ingredients has brought them down to the thousands. As the tigers are killed off, the organisms at a lower trophic level have a higher chance of survival. In India, animals such as small rodents would run rampant, dealing damage to cotton crops. With the country losing more and more of this popular export, the price for anything made with cotton fiber here in the US would go up. If we can raise awareness then making laws and better upholding ones that already exist to stop endangered species from dying off would have enough support to make sure they are used. Apart from spreading the word, you can buy products that are not based on destroying natural habitats and using parts from animals.

  37. The species I find interesting now and have since grade school was the tiger. The tiger is an endangered species that lives mostly in the warm rain forests and even cold climates. The tiger is normally on top when it comes to dominating their habitat, except for one factor, and that is humans. Humans have and still do things that endanger the life of tigers. For one, hunters specifically go out to kill and take the hides of tigers, and for what cause? Other than the fact it may look unique and flashy, there is no other. The tiger species will never recover unless humanity comes to realize what they are doing is wrong. Most of mankind take the beauty and uniqueness of tigers for granted, and do not realize what they are doing is affecting them. I believe the only way to spread the word of tigers, and many other endangered species is to simply tell the facts, inform the public of what is really happening to these species. After that, it is up to the people to truly decide what is worth it. It comes down to skin and bones or uniqueness to the biosphere.

  38. After watching the video, I am so much more aware of what needs to be done in order to preserve life on earth. The fact of the matter is, is that humans aren't taking responsibility for the dangers we are causing to the environment. WE are the ones taking away the habitats of the endangered species, WE are the ones who are to blame for the oil spills and polluted areas. The animal that I am most interested and finding a way of saving is the gorilla. Because the gorilla is so similar to humans in the way that they act, their responses and their interactions with others, I can't help but think that I am killing one of my own. So, how can we save them? The main concern is their loss of habitat. Humans need to stop demolishing their forests. With no where to live, the gorillas are left to be killed, and slowly become apart of a complete extinction. I can personally help the savior of the magnificent animals by telling the public the truth about what's being done to them; show the community pictures of the degrading forests and dying gorillas. We need to stop our destructive and harmful actions if we expect results. Be the change in what you hope to see.

  39. I have always had a love for Polar Bears. Even though they aren't super endangered, they still make the endangered species list. Polar Bears eat seals and fish. But sometimes its hard for the bears to find and eat these animals. Another reason they are endangered is because their land is mostly ice. When the ice melts the Polar Bears have nothing to stand on forcing them to swim. But swimming is hard for them so they end up drowning. The ice is melting because of global warming. We can control global warming by doing something as little as not using our cars as much as we do. One way to get people's attention on saving Polar Bears is to photograph them. Like the video, the pictures really caught my attention and made me want to help them. Also we could make videos to further capture peoples interest.

  40. In today's society, getting people to care about the earth in general is difficult. Checking a Facebook status is more crucial to ones survival than going out, and helping improve the world for future generations. The worlds people can not focus on saving our planet because they argue over economics, religion and human rights, while our ecosystem is demolished. The only way for the public to see what is really going on, and have enough impact on them to make a difference is for a massive disturbance in the earths biosphere that affects everyone. Countries have dealt with related incidents before, such as the gulf oil spill. During the spill, the only thing on peoples mind was the price on the gas station sign(As mentioned in the video). Until everybody can work for the good of planet earth, we will continue to desecrate the once beautiful planet we inhabit. The koala was a classic example of human caused animal deaths. The koala's of northern Australia have been forced to live in subdivisions with human beings, due to the ridiculous amount of housing development. Because of this, animals such as household dogs kill the
defenseless koalas if they get near. The most intriguing endangered animal to me is the many variations of primates. For years different species of gorilla's, monkeys, orangutans etc, have been on the endangered species list. But why? Us!!!!! The four leading causes of primate loss are all human related. We destroy their habitats, sell them as exotic pets, sell their skin and body parts for money, and spread human borne illnesses that the primates immune systems are unable to combat. It is really depressing to know that human beings were the reason a species was on the bring of extinction. Primates are not the only human related endangered animal, but we need to see what we are doing to the other living creatures on this planet and begin to rebuild the punctured ecosystem of earth.

  41. The species I find the most interesting is the rhino. The main reasons the rhinos are becoming extinct is because of habitat loss, their homes are being taken over by man. Also they are dying out because of poaching, the reason they are poached is because their horns are used for many different reasons. things already being done to save them are protecting the forest, monitoring and tracking them, and establishing new populations. I feel a good way to raise awareness is to put advertisements or build it in to the story and out it on national TV.

  42. As shown in the video, we need to tell the public more and more about endangered species. Most of the public probably knows at least a little bit about endangered species, but we need to tell them about all of the different species. The video lets us know how many species really are endangered, and if the public at least had an idea of all of the species, they could maybe find a favorite and want to help the cause. To show the public these species, we could create a website, or something of the sort. Personally, I am interested in the koala. Koalas are mostly grey with some brown, white, and cream color, too. They are an endangered species who tend to live in Northern Australia. Their habitat is in certain types of trees, usually the eucalyptus tree. Although Koalas are endangered, they aren't too threatened, but they still do need help. Because I myself can't conduct major investigations (such as going to Australia and observing koalas), I can do research. To help the cause for koalas, I can research everything about them (predators, prey, habitat, place in the food chain, etc.), and give ecologists my personal input (by writing to them on a website or writing a letter) on how to save the species. To bring even more people in on the action, I can, as described in the video, "bribe" people with candy sweet pictures. Not even necessarily about koalas, it would be very helpful to get even more people to study the endangered species of the biosphere.

  43. The species I was interested that was on the list of endangered species is Cross Back Gorillas. Cross Back Gorillas live in either a submontane tropical or a subtropical broadleaf forest. Something that is a threat towards the existence of the species is habitat loss, the species' highly fragmented distribution, and modification due to humans. In order to help save the species, people need to conserve the habitat by embracing practices that do not harm the environment. Also, people can join the International Gorilla Conservation Program, that teaches people about the species and how important they are.

  44. The Sumatran Tiger is a very beautiful and eye catching species. Sadly, these tigers are critically endangered. Sumatran Tigers live on a small island in Indonesia called Sumatra. On that island, the Sumatran Tigers live in forests, which, due to the growing human population, are getting smaller and smaller, causing these wonderful tigers to become endangered. Another reason of course is that they are being poached. Generally, most people don't truly care about anything unless it directly effects their lives; however, if people would only realize how easy it can be to help, the endangered Sumatran Tiger population will start to get back to normal. To save these tigers you could simply donate to an adopt a wild tiger program. Even spreading the word about endangered species can help tremendously. Also, we can take advantage of social media sites to let people know about these tigers and other endangered species. Posting videos and articles can get the message out to people and get them involved with this issue. Maybe we "Tigers" can all get together to help our fellow Tigers!

  45. One endangered species that I am very concerned with is the leatherback sea turtle. I could help to save the leatherback sea turtle by protecting the babies from predators such as seagulls and crabs as they are trying to get to the ocean. The leatherback sea turtle is a direct descendant from turtles that lived in the age of the dinosaurs and the leatherback has lived on for over 100 million years. Their habitat is mostly every ocean except for the cool oceans like the arctic ocean. Their main threat is when they are first born. They try to reach the ocean but they have to pass predators like some sharks, seagulls and crabs. Only a few get into the ocean and after they get there they will most likely live to over 100. I Could try and help people get involved by making a video on how much this species is struggling to survive. Or, giving people tours of nesting grounds showing and explaining all their predators. I love sea turtles and dinosaurs, and this is the best of both worlds. I just hope one day they won't be endangered anymore or extinct.

  46. The species I find to be most interesting are the ocelots. This endangered species are twice as large as a house cat and just as sly. Ocelots have patterned silken coats that unfortunately have lead to the reason of their rarity- they are targeted often. These beautiful creatures are sleek and excellent hunters; which is a reason why I find them so fascinating! I was shocked to find out that Ocelots can be found in central America (which would be easier and more convenient if we were to save them) as well as the jungles of south America. I think that if we were to have schools and classrooms of all grades more involved with endangered species and projects on animals then we as a country would be more aware of the earth we live in and how we can change it.

  47. It is shocking to see that all these beautiful animals are being sentenced to die because of our inattentiveness. The animals that really caught my eye were the bats. Not because they were extraordinarily cute or anything, but because they are being killed by something that is shown as such a positive element. Bats usually live nearly anywhere, and their nests can be found in caves, crevices, attics, or even man-made houses. Something that could easily be done to help bats live would be showing people how important they are to our environment. Bats are one of the main predators of bugs; without something to eat them, bugs would take over the world. Most people dont know that wind turbines are harmful to bats. They are a disruption in their natural habitat and the spinning blades hit the bats and kill them. In order to get people involved, it is important that they see the negative effects of the turbines and how important bats are to the balance in our world..

Endangered species is a strong topic, that not a lot of people care about. as described in the video, even though people will hear all about the endangered species, they will continue moving on with life like it's not happening. this makes me very sad, even though I too have done the same thing. I felt like the video was very motivating and if more people were to see the animals in there strive for survival, like shown in the video, then they might come more involved. through out the film the man showed the ways he attempted to encourage people to get involved. By using dramatic photos that were capable of telling story, he has a better chance of catching societies eyes. I believe that we should also be showing videos not only where you have to search them in order to find them, but ones that we can see on a daily bases. one species that I am really passionate about is the Asian elephants. These elephants are the largest terrestrial animals in Asia, that are equipped with a one fingered trunk. The Asian's particularly like to live in a shrubby forest with low woody plants and trees. However much of there land is being taken away by the growth in human population.as we are gaining new land for building we are also destroying animals homes. By co controlling our ecological foot print, and actually paying attention to what we do, we could eventually save these creatures. Although, this would involve making sure that the elephants had and enough land, food, water ext., in order to survive. Even though we don't live in Asia and can't help out one on one, we can spread awareness, and help get the ones in Asia started. Therefore, endangered species is a huge topic that needs to be come to more of a focus in our lives.

As the video went on it said koalas can become extinct in 7 years, and 7 years is not a long ways away.Their natural habitats and forests are being destroyed by humans for their natural resources and their fur. To keep the koalas safe we should make it illegal for them to hunt them as well as watch our dogs so they do not attack them.

  51. Endanger: to put somebody or something at risk. Today, there are thousands of endangered species threatened by extinction. One of the many endangered species that caught my attention is the sea lion. Sea lions' primary habitat is in or near oceans. They can be found in large groups on islands with rocky coasts or sandy shores. Most of their time is spent in the water; catching squid, fish, and shrimp to eat. Sharks and whales are common predators to the species, but humans are the primary cause of endangerment. As humans fail to keep the oceans sanitary, sea lions are struggling to survive with the illnesses caused by a dirty habitat. Since pollution is such a well-known issue, we can help this species without even knowing what we've done to help. By enforcing laws, we can push people to be more careful about polluting the oceans. There are many laws and rules attempting to shrink the issue of pollution, but not many are strictly enforced. Keeping a close eye on the matter will better the sea lions' chances of survival and possibly rebounding from endangerment. The truth of the matter is, people hear about world-wide issues every day. However, no one feels the need to do anything about an issue until it affects them directly. By putting the spotlight on pollution, we can save a species.

  53. A good way to inform the public about an endangered species is by telling them about it, showing them through pictures and words that these animals need our help.
The polar bear is one such animal. They are classified as marine mammals they spend most of their lives on the sea ice of the Arctic Ocean. They have a thick layer of body fat and a water-repellent coat that insulates them from the cold air and water. Polar bears spend over 50 percent of their time hunting for food, but less than two percent of their hunts are successful. Their diet mainly consists of ringed and bearded seals because they need large amounts of fat to survive. Polar bears are at the top of the food chain and have an important role in the overall health of the marine environment. Over thousands of years, polar bears have also been an important part of the cultures and economies of Arctic peoples. Polar bears depend on sea ice for their existence and are directly impacted by climate change. Because of ongoing and potential loss of their arctic sea ice habitat resulting from climate change, polar bears are in need of some help.
There are many organizations that have been formed to help save the polar bear. Their main focuses are trying to conserve and protect the polar bears habitats and biome, and trying to reduce industrial impacts on the environment. This is hard work with the polar ice caps increasingly melting. A way you can help is by trying to live a greener life to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Hopefully we can help save the polar bears!

  55. Telling the public about these endangered species isn't an easy task to do. But I believe that if we continue to put out pictures and articles and even start to put TV adds to the public of these endangered species, then people will soon realize how much trouble these species are really in. The species that I am passionate about was the sea otter. Sea otters live on the north pacific coastline for the most part and they used to be poached for their fur back almost 100 years ago. Even though poaching otters is now illegal in the United States, otters still have the bigger problem of ocean pollution. There has been so much oil and debris put into the ocean over the past years that it's unbelievable how the sea otter, or any other species has survived. If we make people more aware of the ocean's pollution problem and let them know about the threat it has on the extinction of sea otters, then they might realize how big a threat pollution has on these helpless creatures. Plus, we really need sea otter in our oceans because they eat the sea urchins which means that the corral and other living underwater species will be safe. Without them, the sea urchins will eat away at the beautiful underwater homes for so many species. So, with letting people know what would become of our oceans if we don't save the sea otters, people will hopefully realize that these cute, fuzzy creatures are really in a lot of trouble.

A way to inform the public is to show them on the news and let them see what a huge problem this is and maybe they will start to realize. I'm interested in tigers because they have a really high endangered rate and we need them to balance out the food web. The species is endangered because so many people illegally hunt the tigers for their meat. We could easily save this species by putting a higher punishment rate on those who do hunt these tigers. To this day, we have lost over 97% of our worlds wild tigers. What I could do to spread awareness is post things on social websites because those are a massive impact on peoples lives. If we all work together we could save the tigers and many other endangered species!

  57. Endangered species has been a common topic talked about for a long time in America and other countries. There have been people who are very active in this community and others who say they care, but never do anything. The difference in numbers between the two greatly favors the ones that do nothing. We can't keep using the same methods of informing the public about endangered animals, they know they can help, they know the population of endangered species is rapidly dropping even with the help of our current environmental organizations such as PETA. Right now we can't inform people by telling them the obvious things they've already been told, we need to be blunt and compassionate. Tell them everything collapses when one species is gone, even we can die from the fall of one species.
The Giant Panda is one of many species that are endangered. They may not be the most beneficial animals in most peoples mind but they do give to their environment a lot that's not common knowledge to most people. When they picture a panda they think a lazy bear that sits and eats then dies. This is completely false. Without giant pandas there would not be very many animals left to spread bamboo seeds, this is the purpose of pandas preserving the bamboo forest. This proves pandas are not just a pretty face people just want to save just to get more pictures of to post on Facebook and other social media sites. If people were informed that without pandas the bamboo forests in china would disappear you would get at least a small portion of that crowd to help. that's a start at least.
We can do more than we think in bigger numbers, but some people are to lazy, not informed, or just don't care enough yet. Eventually we will be able to save the populations of rapidly dying animals, but we need more than the same thing we've been doing for decades.

  58. Knowledge is power. The world needs to know what they are doing to so many animals. A way to inform the public would be commercials showing tons of pictures of the endangered. Not only the cute 'eye candy' but the pitiful death photos as well. People can't care about what they don't know exists. We learn a lot by watching the television, rather it's a new product or some huge sale. Why not learn about these gorgeous animals as well?
The Black-Footed Ferret is just one of numerous examples. This organism is beautiful, with a tan body and black endings (feet, hands, etc.). It's the only ferret native to North America and is a member of the weasel family. Only 18 remained in 1986! That number is far too low. Their habitat is the prairie, which has been reduced so much it killed off the prairie dogs which are prey for the black-footed ferrets.
To get involved, all you need to do is inform people. If enough of us care, it could get to the government who could then lay down laws to protect the species. In addition, if you know anyone who is poaching, convince them to stop. It's just not cool. These animals are gifts of life. Don't push them away for selfish wants.

  59. To show the world about these endangered species, I believe we should show them this video. We should be showing this video in schools, at the mall, on TV commercials, everywhere we can. This video has a powerful message to all viewers. At the start of this video, I was like eh what is this gonna be about. But as we progressed into the video, I got more and more interested. I didn't know how many species were endangered. Watching this video made me more prone to helping save endangered species. So if we showed everybody this video everywhere, they would also know that there is so many endangered species. After watching this video, I am more interested in saving the tigers. I didn't even know tigers were endangered. I thought they were just another species in the biosphere that were living life great. The tigers live in community's but are dying out. When the tigers are dying out, they are changing their environment and the species around it. That is why we need to save the tigers because if the tigers die out, other species could start to too. But, I found out that they really are endangered. To help save the tigers, I think our school should promote a campaign to donate money to help save the tigers. Since our school's mascot is the tiger, I think our school could work together to raise awareness of the tiger being endangered. It could spread out from our school to other schools to the town to the whole world. With this maybe we can help save tigers and have people more aware on the endangered. Overall, if more people find out about the endangered species, more people will want to help, and maybe, just maybe, we can save the world.

  60. The people need to know what they can do to help these animals, but first they need to know what they are doing to these animals to get them into these positions. Some ways we can help out these animals are to stop destroying their homes, and their surroundings. But also we could just stress the facts that this is a huge problem, and should be dealt with correctly.
An example of an endangered animal is the grey Fox. he lives in the woodlands of multiple continents including Europe, Asia, and North America. Only 50 of these creates are documents to still be alive. Some ways that we can help them is to stop destroying all of the wood lands in order to build, expand or anything. I think that there should be a protected area of land, that says natural so that they can live happy, and not be threatened. These animals are as specials as any other species on this planet. we should not let them go to waste.

  61. Endangered species are a very serious topic. One thing about endangered species is that there, well, isn't that many of them. This can create lots of problems in ecosystems, like if there is nothing to eat many rabbits! People are cruel to animals, and kill endangered species for their resources. They don't know that this is a really big deal. The tiger is very endangered. There are not many left in Africa. We need to get involved, and make laws and rules so we don't kill tigers. We also need to give them protected areas of land. We cannot let them get more endangered then they already are.

  62. We are going to tell the public about these species but putting more on television, by putting more commercials on television more people will view the problem more because that is all people do in today's society is watch TV. I"m interested in the polar bears. I can help save them by using less natural gas which includes air conditioning, driving less and showing my friends how the polar bears are dying due to the polar ice caps melting. Polar bears live in the tundra because there fur and coat is thick to withstand the cold weather. Also they are white in color so they are not seen well be predators. To help save the polar bears I will let everyone know how they are dying and that they need to be saved.

    1. I agree with your response because I also think global warming is a big part of why Polar bears are becoming extinct. Getting the awareness broadcasted on the television would be a great idea because everyone is on the TV a lot of the time.

  63. The amount of endangered species is astounding. People don't realize how many they are and how serious it is, until it's all laid out in front of them. The public needs to be shown on the devices we use constantly: television, through the internet, on the radio even. To get the public informed, you have to go to the public. Because they won't come to you. One endangered species is tiger. They live in Africa, and they are nearing their end. To help them, we donate money to research funds. We give them specific areas for just wildlife. We need to enforce the poaching laws for efficiently, because the tiger is soon going to be gone.

  64. This video really puts things into perspective about how the world muffles the truth to make viewers happy. An animal I believe needs a lot of help are the polar bears. i will help by riding my bicycle instead of using a car, turning of the lights when leaving a room, and using less electricity through out the house. Polar bears live in Antarctica, which is the coldest part of the world. Their thick white coat not only keeps them warm, but also gives them a camouflaged protection. Global warming is slowly increasing, which means the cold is slowly decreasing. The heat has and is killing/ed thousands of innocent polar bears. I think the best way to spread awareness about endangered animals is to use the internet. The internet is used worldwide, so it would be a great way to show what is truly going on about endangered species and to do it as fast as possible.

  65. Even though not everyone necessarily loves animals, that doesn't mean that they can't help with the endangered species.Dogs are being abused all around the world. A good way to show people what is happening , we can make advertisements for adopting a dog. I love dogs so much. Although they can be high maintenance, they will always be a good friend to have. A lot of dogs end up with the pound being their habitat. If lucky, dogs can have a safe habitat in a home if adopted. Some are checked in with wounds and bruises all over their body. This abusive treatment is not okay. What society can do to help this problem is to adopt these poor animals and make them healthy again! Different organizations can have fundraisers and collect the money to adopt the dogs and get them medical help. If I ever see a stray dog wandering on the street, I always check to see if it has a collar and if so, return it to its owner. If not, them I bring it to veterinarians to make sure it is healthy! Everyone can do the same as well. Doing these actions will help this species a lot. Our world would't be the same without dogs!

  67. After watching this video, I realized how much the manatee species is suffering and how much of it is from human cause. They were there first and we as humans have to make a "compromise" to share the waters of Florida with them. They go about minding their own business, while boats slaughter them and kill a countless number of manatees. Something that can be done is laws making certain limitations. YOU can help by donating to the WWF and other endangered species organizations. They can help make laws that can help to prevent manatees from getting beaten up. Another thing that would help would be using safer motors in manatee's waters. The propellors wave runners have are SO much more efficient and safer for marine wildlife because they do not reach very deep into the water. Everybody knows manatees are endangered, but not everybody does anything about it. The ones who are doing the disturbing to the manatee species[humans] should fix it! People need to take matters into their own hands and do what they can do, not just depending on an organization!!!

  68. We really need to inform more people about the dangers of losing these amazing animals. We can do that through community fund-raisers, tv programs, and even playing videos like this to schools and workplaces to inspire/educate people. Species of animals like humpback whales are endangered, and who doesn't like whales? They are hunted and 'whaled' for their whale oil and other materials. We have had success in helping their species with special laws to prevent whaling. Something interesting about humpback whales is that they reproduce very slow, and the overhunting makes it almost impossible for them to keep their species going. They live in the ocean, and migrate all the way from Antarctica to places like Hawaii and then back again, to eat and reproduce. We can further protect this species by increasing awareness through TV, articles, and fund-raisers. Many people enjoy the whales, so we should protect them.

  69. What I believe what would help spread information to the public about endangered species is having at least a week based on endangered animals. Grade school students could adopt a class endangered animal from Defenders of Wild Life (defenders.org). This will make an impact on children's childhood and they would most likely show interest in endangered species.
I would have to say my favorite endangered species would have to be the sea turtle. Right now they are being accidentally caught by sailors in Mexico, at least 1,000 turtles per year. I could save this species by sending a letter to the Mexican president, though I doubt that my only worry would make a difference. Though I could keep updated with the species and create a Facebook page based off of them or like it if it has already been created. The only thing we can do is to give endangered species at least five minutes of our time once in a while, and do our best in our busy lives to donate our time or encouragement to organisations that help protect endangered animals.

  70. Adter watching the video, i am very sad and horrified about the koalas. They are one of my favorite animals, but they are being slaughtered. All of their problems come from humans. Humans cut down their habitats (trees) which has their food on it. A major way we can stop this is to donate to a save the koala foundation or any other endagered species organization. It only takes a little to help alot.

  71. This video was about a photographer for National Geographic magazine talking about endangered species such as the koala and a lot of species of frogs. But the one endangered species I have been intrested and passionate about since I was little was the zebra. Specifically the Grevy's Zebra which has under 5,000 zebras left. This specific type of zebra lives in an arid, open grassland area. The primary source for these zebras dissappearing is loss of grazing haitat and access to clean water. Also, this is the type of zebra that is killed for fashion purposes such as purses and coats. Since I found this out I was pretty sad because I have loved zebras forever, so I was thinking I could help donate even the slightest bit of money towards them and maybe even fund a drive towards helping them.

  72. This video really brought some things to light for me. It showed me animals I didn't even know existed. This also brought to mind an endangered animal that was brought up in class, sea turtles. Even though sea turtles are born by the hundreds probably three or less actually survive. With boats now too the motor blades sometimes hit the sea turtles and leave them dead in the water or with a crushed shell or worse. We could inform the public by taking some baby sea turtles to a zoo put them in a tank and let people look and hold them as we tell them about the problem. To help them we could require lower speeds in coastal areas where sea turtles are at. We could get people to donate just a little each month to ensure less of the sea turtles will be hit by boats and have people guard the newborns as they head toward the water.

  73. There are so many endangers animals that it is hard to choose only one, so instead I will generalize/focus mainly on Rain forest species. the rain forests have the most diverse animals in the planet (On land) and also are the smallest of all the land biomes. Rain forests are also the most threatened because of development by humans, the way to prevent some of the worlds most awesome land animals is too...
To be honest I don't know how to save the Rainforests. Which brings me to my other point I want to make. Unlike others think, it is not because of social media that nobody is doing anything. The part of the population that can really change these things is occupied with something else. High school students, College students. They make the changes, but along with having the burden to create changes in the world, they also have to create their own future for themselves. When I see the depressing animal abuse commercials, (on the weekends) i think,"I should do something about that! But I have to do Homework first" That is why nothing happens. Call me cruel all you want, but for me making sure my life will unfold in the way I want it to, takes priority over saving the wild, as soon as I have a stable career, and income, I will think about it. Besides, the world isn't waiting for me and only me to do something. But if saving the planet is something you want to do then try going here:
    http://www.rainforest-rescue.org/?gclid=CLeWgJ3f8bkCFYxcMgodsREAhg
or just google how to save the rain forests, I'm sure 5 million things will pop up.

  74. A great problem in the world is endangered species. Once a species is gone, they’ll never come back. Beautiful organisms are disappearing every day. Humans are causing the problem by destroying habitats, but we can make a change. We can stop destroying habitats and help these animals.
The animal I want to help save is the South China Tiger. There are less than 100 of these tigers left and they haven’t been seen in over 25 years. These beautiful animals live in the South China-Hainan Moist Forests. These tigers are threatened from hunters and they have no area large enough to live in because of people expanding their cities. You can help save the tigers by donating to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and Save China’s Tigers.

  75. There are so many endangered species in he world. Many of them, you wouldn't even realize were extinct, or maybe even existed. The species that I would try to save would be the Asian elephant. The reason that I would want to save this species is because when people are killing these giant animals, all they do is cut off their tusks for ivory. Many people do not realize this is a problem because many people wont even know what ivory is, let alone what it comes from. Yes, we are trying to stop the hunting of elephants by putting restrictions on the buying and selling of ivory, but we are not doing enough. They are still being killed internationally, and the problem is not being solved. If we want to save the elephants, or let alone any other species, we will have to apply rules internationally. Just like we have international rules in warfare, we should have a similar set of rules, just for this. The elephants live in southeast Asia, and the only main threat they have is humans. We should know better than this by now. We are the most dominant species on earth, and we should act responsibly. Just because we now have the ability to kill things that are bigger that us, does not mean that we need to. We could easily replace ivory with plastic, or other kinds of minerals. Everybody needs to get involved in this, not just in America, but all over the world.

  76. Whales eat plankton and nature runs its course but when humans step in and over-poaching problems begin to arise. The Beluga Stergeon is known very well for its eggs, a delicacy known as caviar. This is one of the most endangered fish in the world and it's all because humans find its babies so delicious. I personally have never had caviar, but I firmly believe that the comsumption of an endangered animal should be against the law in every way. Even if it is, this law wouldn't be very strictly enforced since a restaurant could say that the fish was not that type and get away with it quiet easily. Eventually this fish will go extinct but until then I can do my part and boycott restaurants serving Beluga Sturgeon eggs, showing them that there are people that aren't okay with what is going on. This would also show the people that don't know about the level of endangerment the animal is under that there is something that needs to be done to maintain the safety of the fish. Boycotts don't always work very well but it is certainly a good place to start.

  77. So many different species of animals are endangered, and many people don't even know it. People need to do something to alert people and let them know what is happening. One specific species that they talked about in the video was the koala bears in Australia. This species could be helped by giving more attention to all of the Koala's that are dying. Like it showed in the video everyone imagines the furry cute ones but they never realize how many are dying. So many of them are dying because the Australians are cutting down so many of the places where they live and putting them in cages. The population of Koala's in Australia used to be much greater than it is now. I think they could easily find other places to build all of the new buildings and other things that are replacing the habitats of the koala bears. I could help by donating money to help stop the destruction of the habitats.

  78. There are many ways to save the endangered species of the world but for the purpose of this assignment I will choose the manatee. the manatee is endangered because of being caught in fishing nets and getting hit by propellers. To save the endangers species of the earth is nearly impossible but is still worth a second look at. It takes anything from a sign to a hover boat to save them and it is worth my time but is extremely herd for one person to save a species by themselves.

  79. It’s becoming plainly obvious that the expanding population of humans could become a severe problem in the near future. However, what is causing this mass growth? Many people are led to believe that the improved medicine and agricultural systems have much to do with this development. By improving the medicine we are giving people much longer and healthier lives that decreases the mortality rate. At the same time this increase in medicine also allows for more successful births increasing the natality rate. As agriculture improves we are able to supply more food and support more people. With just these two things, it throws the whole system off balance and makes the population size grow. While a seemingly good thing there are some troubles with it. One of the major problems is how the Earth will continue to support so many people. Resources are already starting to run low and soon it will be the wealthy and the lucky that will be able to get the proper nutrient that they need. Many societies are already struggling to support their people with what they have. An example of this would be in Africa where their population is so dense and there are such few resources that many people are starving and poor, dying young from sickness and famine. If changes aren’t made these problems will began to spread to even more regions until the mortality rate will even out with the natality rate once again.

  80. I think that around the end of the century like the video says, when it’s predicted that the population will reach ten billion, the earth will be able to support the amount of people with certain complications. Depending on the location, some areas might have more of a shortage in resources than others. China is a good example of the population rapidly increasing. Because of the amount of people, each family is only allowed to have one child. If the population continues to grow, more countries might have laws like that to control the growth. Although not only humans would be affected by the living space on earth becoming more crowded. A lot of animals already are having their habitats destroyed by humans. An example of this would be the koalas in Australia. They barely have enough space left to live and its because there are a lot more humans taking over more areas. The earth will probably be able to support ten billion people, but the crowded space might harm endangered species even more.
