How best to study for Finals?
Last week I gave you all a review packet to help you prepare for final exams. When talking to my own freshman son, he was asking for tips on how to study for final exams. This week I want you to read one of the articles below.

When you are done reading, I want you to respond to this post with one thing that you think you might use to help you study for finals. Why do you think it will help? If you have other ideas that you think would help others, please share. This will not be a long response.
I do want to reinforce that cramming the night before is not a good idea. Getting a good night sleep and being prepared are your best tools. Good luck with the rest of the semester and start making a game plan for studying now.
After reading the first article, I think I am going to follow the tip to form a study group. I think this will be a helpful tool for me because It will motivate me to be focused. It will also improve my understanding of the material because I can ask my friends if I am confused on something. A study tip I have would be to study at a public place like Starbucks, this helps so you don't procrastinate or get distracted by doing something else.
ReplyDeleteReading the first article, I know that one thing that will help me study for finals is making a plan. This will help me because then I can spread out all of my work instead of cramming it into a few days. Another thing that would help me and others is to make a study group. You will be more motivated to study if it is with your friends. It is also more beneficial to talk through your notes because then you have a deeper understanding of them.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that I will implement when studying for finals is starting small and working my way through it. One thing I do it pile myself with boat loads of work and I need to take time and do little by little.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds helpful!
DeleteThe helpful study tip I thought would benefit me was having no distractions. I tend to get distracted very easily when I’m trying to either study or get homework done, so this might be a good idea to consider. A tip that I have for studying is to get stuff done ahead of time. If you have the time to prepare flash cards or organize all of your papers to look over for that subject, it could put you in even better shape to study.
ReplyDeleteI read the first article, How to Study for Finals, by the Princeton Review. I think that studying early will be a great help for me because then I know anything and everything that will be on the final, and I will be prepared. Some other things I do to help me study is that I like to take my notes in color, and then I go back and highlight the important things.
ReplyDeleteI chose the last article. A good tip I read about was to simply get a good night's sleep. This way your brain is refreshed and can remember information better; You will also be more alert and that will help keep you up and focused.
ReplyDeleteI read the first article by the Princeton Review. When I study for anything, I always make flashcards and go through all of my notes little by little so I don't get overwhelmed with five chapters at a time. Another good tip is to go through one unit of notes and write down key points and examples for review. Something I like to do is to make a study group with friends in case I need help with anything I am confused on or just for moral support.
ReplyDeleteTo study for the final I will try to find at least one person from each class I can study with. Doing this will help me if I get stuck on a concept and it will motivate me to study. My tried and true way of studying is FLASHCARDS. If I ever need to study for a class I write flashcards in blue pen. Writing out the flashcards helps you retain information but also the internet told me blue pen is better than any color to remember information. Along with that, going through the review packet and highlighting anything I don’t remember and then when looking through my notes for the section I know what to focus on.
ReplyDeleteI think that the princeton review article gave good tips for how to be prepared for finals because there were plenty of tips that I am considering doing. I think it would be helpful to study my notes that I already have and annotating my notes.
ReplyDeleteReading the first 2 articles, I decided I would like to find a study partner or group. I tend to learn better if I work with someone face to face and have them quiz me and I quiz them. Also I think it would be good if I created a study plan in order to stay organized and less stressed out about my first finals. However, it is also important to take breaks and not wear myself out before the day even arrives. My tip is to study somewhere quiet with little to no distractions in order to make a real dent in studying.
ReplyDeleteI read the first article that was from The Princeton Review. One studying idea that I really liked was studying in the order of what will most likely be on the final. This is important because I am better off studying the most important information then studying the smaller details. This will also help me with time management.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a very helpful and important tip. I will try this when I'm studying!
DeleteI read the third article which talked about six ways for self discipline when you are trying to study. When I try to study, I usually get distracted and my brain wanders away from what I am working on. For finals I will put away all distractions, take a five minute break for every 35 minutes and I will try to get more sleep.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that i think I will do to help me study for finals is making homemade quizzes or things like Quizlet to make sure i have a good grasp on the material. The repetitive repetitions will help engrave the concepts into my brain well enough so that i will maybe even know them by heart.
ReplyDeleteI read the last article, Tips for easier studying at Home. I think proper sleep and studying at the right time will help me a lot towards achieving my goal towards finals. Also I think its a good thing to consider doing everything they said in my article because the more preparation and handwork you do towards the finals the better you will do.
ReplyDeleteAfter reaing the article about self discipline, I think that the thing that will help me most while studying for finals will be removing all temptations. I believe that for most people having your phone in front of you and buzzing with notifications while you're studying is extremely distracting. A tip I have, and I know most teachers say this too. Is to not cram everything in the night before. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI read the third article, "Tips for Easier Studying at Home". A tip that I think will really help me study is getting a good night's rest because I don't oftentimes sleep enough and I notice that when I'm studying my mind tends to wander and I don't focus on the task at hand.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading all the articles about tips on better studying I learned I needed to get a good night sleep, to help keep the information studied in my brain. I also learned that finding a quite place with no distractions is very important so you can stay focused. I will take this tips into consideration as I study for this semesters finals.
ReplyDeleteReading the Princeton Review, I find that the most useful study tip for me is to "Talk it out". This can be done just about anywhere, whether I have the material with me or not. If I am on the bus, I can quietly talk out the material that I remember, and it can be a good tool to test what I know and what I don't. If I have the material with me, I can read the text aloud or answer reflection questions in the text aloud. Speaking things really helps to solidify them in your brain!
ReplyDeleteI read the first article "How to Study for Finals". The most important tip I took away is to start early. I am a huge procrastinator so I always have to push myself to not just cram on the last day.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading the article, "How to Study For Finals" I have decided that I will work on studying for the toughest classes first, and then work on the other ones. This will give me more time for the class I need the most help with instead of putting it off to the side.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading the Princeton article on studying for finals, I plan on spending more time studying on the classes that are a lot more tougher and that have more content to cover. Instead of just looking over notes, I'm going to use quizlet on the vocab terms I'll need to know and do review packets some of my teacher gave me.
ReplyDeleteThe article that I read was the "How To Study For Finals" Article. I read that you should spend more time studying for the harder classes more than the easier classes.
ReplyDeleteI read the article "6 Steps for Self-Discipline When Studying." One tip that I think I could use while studying was the "Start Small" technique. This idea of studying is built upon taking small scheduled breaks in between studying periods while slowly increasing the amount of time spent studying. This can really help me stay focused on a certain subject without losing focus. I've noticed that my focus tends to waver 20-25 minutes into studying so I might try this technique to help stay focused and learn as much as possible.
ReplyDeleteI read "Tips for Easier Studying at home." When I study, I tend to become sleepy and not really care about what I am studying. Maybe if I go to bed earlier, I could last longer studying.
ReplyDeleteAfter I had read the 1st article, the tip that caught my eye was to start with the class that you struggle with the most. I think this would help because it gives you more time to get comfortable with the content of that subject.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading my article I've come to the conclusion that I need to go into studying for finals with a plan. Usually when I study i rewrite the notes in different colors and draw different pictures but perhaps I'm more focused on remembering all of it and need to focus on the order I go in. My article said study from most to least important so rather than going through my notes in order I could go through them by importance.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading "6 Steps for Self-Discipline When You Study" I found that what might help me most is to manage my time because there will never be a 'perfect' time to study, also leaving room to eat, sleep, and be kind enough to yourself that you can have a social life as well as succeed in school.
ReplyDeleteI read the article about tips for studying at home. I am going to use the tip about getting more sleep because it will help me to not feel tired so that I can be well rested and focus while I take all of my tests.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading the articles I really liked the idea about taking a break when you're studying because a lot of times I get very frustrated if I don't understand something so taking a break would be very helpful.
ReplyDeleteI read the first one and i think that i will probably study for my hardest finals the most and also take breaks in between studying to give myself a rest. I remember also talking about in seminar that we should study in groups to help us remember what we need to know. They also said that eating a good breakfast and getting a lot sleep is important and i will totally do these things.
ReplyDeleteI read the first article, "How to Study for Finals" and immediately took notice to a couple vital tips. Firstly, it is smart to organize your material from definitely on test, probably, and might be on, this way you know where to prioritize and what to focus your attention on. Another tip is to form a study group, this way you will have a stricter study structure and it can make the preparation more enjoyable. These instructions and so many more will definitely be beneficial in the near future.
ReplyDeleteI read the article from Princeton Review. One of the best tips I think it gives is to make a finals game plan. I think this would be very beneficial because it would help me to make sure I have enough time to study each subject. Using this tip would save time because you already know what you are going to study on each day and you won’t have to figure it out.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I will do to study for finals is rewrite my notes in different colours until i remember all of the things that i need to. When i re-write my notes it helps me remember during the test because i remember the different colours that i wrote everything in and i remember writing it each time
ReplyDeleteA good study method for me depending on what the test is on could be using notecards for vocab and testing myself on what I reviewed after a five-minute break. It is really important for someone with a normal sleep schedule to get rest and eat while studying. Based off of my article you should start studying early, you also want to start studying with what you know, then what you know is on the test, then what you are unsure of is on the test.
ReplyDeleteI think a good way for me to be succesful on exams is to start a plan and ask myself: What days will I study, what are the best strategies for me to retain information, and so on. I think this will be great for me so i wont be so unorganized
ReplyDeleteA good study method is making sure I have a clean work space. Personally if I don't have a clean work area the only thing I can focus on is the mess and not studying.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading the article "6 Steps for Self-Discipline When You Study", I think that an important thing to do when you study is to remove distractions like your phone. I think that if I do this while studying for finals, I will do better on them.
ReplyDeleteOne good study tip is to use note cards, I normally use note cards but instead of just reading them I will make a quiz about them or do matching. Note cards offer a few ways to study like, matching or actually physically reading them. I will also rewrite the vocab multiple times to develop a memory of the word and its meaning.

ReplyDeleteI think what will help me for finals is a study group and setting a schedule to get in what I need. I think this will help because this whole semester i have been struggling with time management. I think a schedule will help me plan out everything i need to study and in a timely manner.
After reading the articles on steps for successful studying, I think that a good idea that I can apply to my studying session would be to “remove temptations.” Temptations for me would be my phone because while I’m studying, I tend to get distracted by social media and games. The article says to put temptations like this “out of sight, out of earshot, and out the window, if necessary.” While I study for finals I’m going to turn my phone off and put it in a different room so I don’t get distracted.
ReplyDeleteThe main and most important thing that I'm going to do for study for finals is putting my phone in another room. Whenever it's near me I go on it and it distracts me.If I don't have it near me less time will be wasted.
ReplyDeleteThe study tip that I believe would be the most useful is to quiz yourself. After reviewing notes, or a quizlit, make yourself a mini-quiz and see how you do on it.The more you study the notes and review, the better the scores on the mini quiz's will be.
ReplyDeleteOne of the things I read is to get a good nights sleep. I believe this is something I will do (and also kind to work on) to help me with finals. I will also figure out a designated study area which is something else I read. I might make mine my dining room (when we're not eating).
ReplyDeleteWhile reading through the article "6 Steps for Self Discipline When You Study," I thought it was really interesting to read how removing temptations is big part as to why people get distracted from focusing on the content they're trying to study. Honestly, this is probably mine (and most kids my age), largest problem. With cell phones right next to us, it's easy to accomplish little to no studying. So with finals coming up, I will be dedicating at least 30 minutes as often as I can with 10 minute breaks in between to study; with no cell phones, no TV, and no music.
ReplyDeleteIn the article is talks about how FBI have access to millions of databases to help solve a murder. With the FBI having different fingerprints, there is bound to be a print that relates to the criminal in some way. I believe that if this is the path police need to take to catch a criminal, then that is right. This is a smart way to get a generalization of where the fingerprint is from, by knowing what family it is out of. Then examining the family will later lead to an investigation which with then narrow it down to one person who is the suspected criminal. I think that whatever it takes to catch a criminal should be done. I would want to take a DNA test because I am interested in knowing my family history and different things about me.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I might use in my studies is to have some variety. This would help me not get bored from studying so I study more.
ReplyDeleteI read the first article and a study habit that stuck out to me was a study group because I had never heard of one as a study tool before. There are many benefits of a study group because if you have a question, the likelihood of it being answered is much higher than working on your own. Also Working on a harder subject helps if you have someone helping you.Lastly, with group, if you lack motivation, the members can help keep you accountable.
