Read the article below:
What do you think? Is the dress blue and black or white and gold? Do you think that there are other images out there that look different based on the interpretation of wavelenghts of light? Are you the night owl that sees the dress as blue and black or the early riser like me who sees the dress as white and gold?
To me, the dress appears to be white and orange/gold. There are very likely many other pictures out there that appear to be different colors. People can be colorblind and that can cause them to see the colors around a certain color to be darker or lighter. Also, People's eyes ma cause them to see a wave length differently.
ReplyDeleteI also see the dress to be white and gold but I don't see the orange in it. People can see different colors based on their eyesight. Why people see different colors is based on their retina and the certain light also factors to why people see different colors. For me personally, I see white and gold.
DeleteI'm actually colorblind but still saw the correct colors in the picture, but I see where you're coming from
DeletePersonally, I see the dress to be blue and black. This dress is strange that it makes people see different colors but it might have to do with being colorblind but people who are not colorblind still see different colors
DeleteThe dress in real life is actually blue and black which supposedly means that if you see black and blue then you have perfect eyesight. I think it depends on the persons phone. I see blue and black but when i look on other peoples phone. It also seems that the brightness of the phone affects the color i see
ReplyDeleteI definitely see blue and black, but by no means do I have perfect eyesight, I always have to wear contacts/glasses!
DeleteI have always seen the dress as blue and black and I don't know how anyone could see it any different. It reminds me of those paintings that look like one thing but is actual made up of an entirely different object. Those types of artwork is what fascinates me because it is mostly the workings of someone's brain.
ReplyDeleteI see the dress as blue and black too but no matter how I look at it I still see it as blue and black. I've even tried turning the brightness on my phone up and down but I still see it as blue and black. I also love those paintings.
DeleteI see the dress as blue and gold; a combination of both sides. I bet there are other controversial images out there, but not many, because the article said that this instance is very rare- that is why it has become such a big deal. Supposedly I am both a night owl and an early riser since I can see all the colors.
ReplyDeleteI think this whole controversy about ¨the dress¨ is stupid. I am a night owl so I see the dress as black and blue. I think its just the way you look at the image. In the article there are 3 different images. A light, medium, and dark lit image. I saw the light image as white and gold at first, but when you really take time to look at it, it's black and blue. I also think that something this pointless can strike the internet in less than 24 hours. But it is interesting how it works with your eyes.
ReplyDeleteI'd definitely agree that the ongoing argument about the dress is annoying and pointless, even with the cool science behind it.
DeleteYeah, I agree. It's a little silly to call this a controversy in the first place. However, it is cool that people are learning something new about science!
DeleteI'm on team White & Gold. I see those two colors no matter what. Even if they change the exposure of the photo to show the "black and blue" interpretation it's still obviously white and gold to me. Since the news has proved the real dress is actually blue and black, I've looked on multiple phones, in varying lighting, with different exposures/filters, and on different brightness levels, and I still see white and gold. I can't exactly say anything about my eyesight because not even science can agree what the different perceptions mean, but I can say that I'm tired of hearing people argue about it.
ReplyDeleteI found another optical illusion that's very similar to "the dress" -
http://i.guim.co.uk/static/w-700/h--/q-95/sys-images/Guardian/Pix/pictures/2014/11/12/1415800188978/cb9364af-e886-460c-96fc-00d76c88c122-1020x710.jpeg
The two strips of color are actually the same shade of red (not pink or red). It shows how the perception of color can be affected by other aspects of the scene. This could be the reasoning behind the dress phenomenon.
I always have seen it as blue and black no matter what. Your illusion is pretty cool. They look like different shades at first because the white is next to the one line, while the green is surrounding the other.
DeleteI love the illusion! I wouldn't have realized that the pink squares were the same shade of pink unless you told me. When I went back and really studied the photo, I was able to see them as the same shades.
DeleteI agree, no matter what I do I still see white and gold. I also agree about how it got old real fast. It's amazing how much can change or fade away within a week.
DeleteWhen I looked at the dress I saw white and gold. I had some other members of my family come in the room and some of them saw the same color as me but most of them saw it as blue and black. It was very strange and we started to debate a little bit about the whole topic and I read this article which made me realize there are some scientific reasons why people see different colors on the dress. I read that the color of the dress was really blue and black. Since I saw white and gold, I guess it makes an early riser. I still think it's weird how this happens even though there are scientific reasons on how this happens.
ReplyDeleteHere is an optical illusion:
Deletehttp://www.michaelbach.de/ot/mot-ske/index.html
I also find it weird that blue and black can be seen as white and gold or other way around even though the article explains this.
Delete
ReplyDeleteI see the dress as white and gold no matter what I do. I have tried several things, like looking at it from a different angle or glancing at it right when I wake up, but all I see is white and gold. The only time I see blue and black is when they edit the photos, such as the photo to the right. There are plenty of images that offer the same effect. For example, the illusion you have posted on the side with the two squares of the same color has the same confusing quality as the dress. Both the illusion and the dress are similar because they are influenced by our mind’s ability to interpret light. The two squares appear to be different colors because our mind believes that the one should be darker because it is in the shadow of the cylinder. Overall our mind is a tricky landscape that is quite intricately woven (so, basically I’m saying that the brain is an incredible thing).
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5-9pSyTiM_U/SPcG3XEFqVI/AAAAAAAAEoQ/vu_CZt9QB28/s400/Biggest+Elephant+Illusion.jpg
I agree with you, I see only gold and white. I also tried looking at it from different angles, but can't see the blue and black.
Delete
ReplyDeleteThe dress in reality, is black and blue, which I found hard to believe at first. I thought the dress was white and gold when I saw it. The second time I saw white and blue. Finally, I saw black and blue, but only for a few seconds. I do think that there are other images that look different based on lighting, different screens, and different people. I found this youtube video of puzzling optical allusions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRCMdnCr6h0
i found it really weird too. It seemed like the colors were switching in front of me.
DeleteAs stated in the article , the dress in the picture’s “real” color is blue and black, which is what I see. I’m sure there are many other pictures that have different appearances based on how one perceives the wavelengths, I know there have been several instances when going about everyday life that I have seen a different color than someone else, however the interpretations have never been so different as blue and white. As for what types of people see what color, I would agree that night-owls mostly see blue and black because I’m certainly not an early riser. Overall I think the internet's tension about the dress is rather stupid. Many incorrect theories about your mood and personality altering your perception of the color have been put out there causing more arguments about such a useless topic. Although the actual science behind “the dress” is interesting, I’ll be overjoyed to see the garment off my device’s screens.
ReplyDeleteHere are some cool illlusions:

http://img.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/files/2015/02/rotating-dots.gif
I agree with Grace. I Feel the tension and obsession over the dress is rather stupid. I also agree that night owls see blue and gold too.
DeleteWow the illusion with the dots was so cool!
DeleteThe whole night owl speculation was just a conjecture, not a fact. Many people here seem to agree with the theory, but if the article is read closely, it is apparent that Conway made this remark as a joke; the article even said, "He even speculated, perhaps jokingly..."
DeleteWhen I look at the dress, I think it looks like a very pale blue, and gold. Sometimes when I look back at the dress it could be a normal blue and black, and sometimes I see it as a normal white and gold. It really depends on the context and time of day, as the article states. This article makes me understand this concept a bit more.
ReplyDeleteThe dress is black and blue. Even in the light filtered picture, if you look hard enough, you can tell the white is really blue. This is the most controversial image we've come across in a while, so I can't say there's many more out there. There are plenty of optical illusions though. Below is the link to a famous illusion- some people see a young woman, some see an old woman. Which do you see?
ReplyDeletehttp://wordsculptures.com/page/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/illusion.jpg
Rachel, this optical illusion is so cool! I've seen it before, and the first thing I notice is the young woman.
DeleteI agree that some blue is to be seen, but I don't understand how the gold can be misinterpreted for black. Every time I see white and gold, with a tint of light light blue if you look hard enough.

ReplyDeletehttps://www.yuppiegadgets.com/2011/11/best-optical-illusion-ever/
ReplyDeleteI see the dress as blue and gold. I suppose i'm an early rising owl. I think this is probably the most controversial image we've seen in a long time, which was also stated in the article, so i don't think there's anything quite like it. However, below is the link to a cool optical illusion which shows rings that appear to be moving, but are actually completely still.
ReplyDeletehttp://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTZ8h2-ifAvoJi5d3FC_lIHO3T-qmdweSjY42R_JuTlTXhCD-CMwg:funeyetest.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/fun-funny-scary-optical-illusions-for-kids-32.jpg
I think that it is really weird that something like this has taken over the media this past week. I see the dress different every time because almost every picture is different! There have been filters placed on it so we don't even really know which is the real dress. I think that the first picture is white and gold, the second is blue and gold, and the third is blue and black.
ReplyDeleteAnother illusion I found interesting: http://www.pxleyes.com/photoshop-picture/4bfbb2f65e369/How-Many-Black-Dots-.html
I've always seen the dress as blue and black no matter what screen it's on. I think it's interesting though that if you are supposedly a night owl, you will see the dress as blue and black. I personally can stay up really late, but I also cannot sleep in for the life of me. I wonder how much our eyesight really plays into the way our bodies sleep?
ReplyDeletehttp://news.distractify.com/dark/science/natural-optical-illusions/
I totally understand, sometimes when I'm just plain exhausted, I still can't go to sleep. I wonder if our bodies just switch to a half on half off, and it just can't turn completely off. But I bet stress, anxiety, consumption, our eyesight and a bunch of other factors play into how well our bodies will sleep.
DeleteI agree that it would be cool to see how much our eyesight affects our sleep.
DeleteI thought the article was very interesting. I found out that the dress is actually blue and black but shocking that, to me it looks white and gold. I think there are lots of other images that perceive an optical illusion because of our interpretation of light wavelengths. I think it is very strange how an image that some, is black and blue and to others it is white and gold. This makes me think back to our last unit with chromosomes and genes. Different genes code for eye color which causes us all to see a little different.
ReplyDeletehttp://funeyetest.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/optical-illusions-funny-pictures-329.jpg
I agree on how it is interesting that some people see white and gold and others see black and blue.
DeleteI also think it's interesting how two sets of completely different colors can look so similar.
DeleteThis dress is very confusing in my opinion. I think the dress is blue and black. Yes, I think there are other images out there that look different based on the wavelengths of light. I’m a night owl who sees blue and black. Overall, I think the dress is very cool because it all depends on the wavelength of light to determine the color you’ll see.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.wired.com/2014/11/optical-illusion-science/
I see the dress as blue and black. I guess I'm a night owl. I really don't get how people ever have seen it as white and gold. There are many other illusions like this out there. I thought this one was really interesting:
ReplyDeletehttps://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/ec/da/ac/ecdaac792e46ffd0ecbe3f833e99e6f9.jpg
It's true that I have never seen it as gold and white. I heard if you see it in the sunlight, then the color changes. But I never see sunlight anymore xD. However, I really like your illusion! Gave me the creeps but whatever.
DeleteWow I really liked your illusion! For those of you with the ability to enable invert colors on your cellphone, turn it on then stare at the nose of a selfie or other picture for 15 seconds and look at a plain white surface, it happens again! Id really like to know how this illusion works and how the colors fix themselves!
DeleteI see the dress as blue and black and when I first saw this I saw two complete different pictures and thought it was two different dresses. But when i looked closer I saw that it was the same dress. This confused me when I saw a lot of debate about it because I didn't know it was some type of illusion but now that I've heard about it more I guess I can see why people are debating about it. This dress is different for people with different light sensitivity. I am more of a night person so that is why I see blue and black.
ReplyDeleteIllusion: http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTBk56-wJ6Ove0XuFZbU9G9HRg9nEB3sgxdgSfV7zo9aPdN4WTrXA
I have seen the dress as both colors. I guess that means I occasionally wake up early, and occasionally stay up late.

in this illusion, it makes you hallucinate if you stare at the center of the screen properly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVgOLWVYytM
I agree with Matt. I have seen the dress both colors, and my sleeping habits can occasionally vary.
DeleteThis article seemed okay to me. As the article and I say, the dress is indeed black and blue. However, I don't remember seeing this theory of the dress saying that artificial and natural light affect the color you see, as told by the newest video of the youtube channel ASAPScience.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I found a cool illusion called infinite chocolate bar. Evident in this gif:
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LBs2nfLDb7E/UVZi1JQCxEI/AAAAAAAAnIM/xOQ9-s8lcTI/s1600/never-ending-chocolate.gif
This whole dress situation is just the pain in my brain. When people said they saw white and gold I felt insane, but then I heard people talk about how it is all about the cones in your eyes it started to make more sense. I’m the night owl that sees it as black and blue, the real color. There is definitely other images out there that are affected by the wavelengths of light. Here is another example of an illusion, but not on light: http://www.flisbybloggen.se/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/the-crevasse-making-of-3d-street-art.jpeg
ReplyDeleteIn response to Emily, I completely agree with you about how this whole dress is a pain. Like you, I didn’t understand how people saw the other colors opposite of me until I found out the science behind it.
DeleteI think this optical illusion is strange, at first i thought people were joking about seeing white and gold. I must be a night owl because i only see black and blue. Yes, I think there are other images out there that look different based on the wavelengths of light.
ReplyDeleteHere's a cool optical illusion, if you see the dance rotate clockwise it means you're more left brained while is you see her move counter-clock wise you're more right brained. http://www.geek.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/21.gif
I think that's it's funny you thought people were joking about seeing white and gold, I thought people were joking about seeing black and blue when I obviously saw white and gold. I still don't understand how people see black and blue.
DeleteI really like this optical illusion because it actually proves (I think) if you are left brained or right brained.
DeleteI personally see the dress as blue and black; however, when the lighting of the picture gets brighter, I can understand how some people see white and gold. I can stay up very late (though I typically go to bed before 11), but I always end up waking up before 9, so I don't know if that affects what I see or not.
ReplyDeleteIn this optical illusion you stare at the negative image of and then your brain flips the color of the image to see if more clearly.
http://www.illusions.org/dp/1-54.htm
I think that this fight over what the color of the dress actually looks like is pretty lame. I think it is white and gold. Yes, I think there are other images like this because of the amount of optical illusions on the internet. I am an early riser because I see white and gold.
ReplyDeletehere is a cool illusion of a face is it looking forward or at you?
http://www.illusions.org/dp/1-91.htm
I also think that the dress seems to be a waste of time but yet is pretty cool seeing two different sides. Also, I think that that the dress is gold and white.
Delete
ReplyDeleteWhen I first saw and heard about the picture I thought it was ridiculous. To me it was obviously white and gold, but seeing the picture later on it was black and blue. I can see both sides but for the most part it’s white and gold. I also think it’s crazy how such a small picture could blow up so much. I’m sure that there are other images out there that mess with you the same way that this one does.
I had the exact same thing happen to me as it did to Hunter. late at night I saw it as blue and black, and then later that same night, I saw gold and white. It so incredible as to how wavelengths can make such a difference in how we see things.
DeleteI only seem to see the dress as white and gold. Optical illusions make my eyes hurt sometimes because there are some that are crazy!
DeleteThis dress picture is the more controversial picture ever. Even between my family members, we see different colors. Every time I see this picture, I see a white and gold dress. I definitely think there could be more pictures out there that are interpreted differently because of the wavelengths. I am also an early riser, as I can never seem to sleep past 9 am.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really cool illusion I found. If you leave the spokes grey they appear to move in a circle. If you change them to white, they don't move at all.
http://www.michaelbach.de/ot/mot-spokes/index.html
Yeah my family and I all seem to see different colors too.
DeleteI have the same problem! All my family sees blue and black, but I see white and gold! Also that is a pretty amazing illusion!
DeleteYeah I totally agree with you Tara, I think that this picture can go both ways. I am also an early riser because I can see the dress in white and gold.
DeleteThis optical illusion has confused many people. When I see it, I see gold and white. I showed the picture to my family and found that we were evenly divided between people seeing black and blue and gold and white. Though I see it as gold and white, I'm not a morning person at all.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.illusions.org/dp/1-91.htm
I see gold and white too and I also showed my family! My mom and my brother saw it blue and black and my dad and I saw it as white and gold! This was weird to me because My dad and I are a lot alike and my brother and my mom are a lot alike! Maybe it's a gentitic thing!
DeleteIn response to Lauren, I see the dress as Blue and Black, but as I showed it to my family and their first impressions was that the dress was White and Gold. As they looked at it at from different angles they began to see it as its true colors, Blue and Black.
DeleteI see and know that the dress is black and blue. I found a page full of optical illusions like this one- http://funeyetest.com/optical-illusions-funny-pictures/. Weirdly enough, I first saw this picture at 7 a.m, and still saw it as black and blue.
ReplyDeleteI see the dress as a dark blue and black. I go to bed around 12 every night, so I guess you could say I’m a night owl. But it was hilarious to see so much confusion in such a little amount of time over this dress. I believe a main contributor to the blow up of this dress controversy would be social media, this dress could be shared and showed to millions of people in the matter of seconds.
ReplyDeleteI found a couple cool optical illusions, but after looking at them longer then like 2 minutes my brain started throbbing and turning to mush as I was trying to find the logic behind each one. http://gizmodo.com/5981603/20-optical-illusions-that-might-break-your-mind
When I first looked at the dress I saw gold and white, but sometimes I see blue and black also. I think it just depends on the lighting of the picture. I myself am a night owl, however I tend to see the dress more often as gold and white.
ReplyDeleteI can see gold and white and black and blue separately, depending on certain factors, such as screen angle, brightness, and saturation. Also, I found that when the top part of the dress is viewed alone, it appears white and gold, whereas when the bottom part is sectioned off, it appears black and blue. I assume that this is due to the shadowing in the picture. Interestingly enough, although the night owl comment was made as a joke, it does seem to correspond with my time of day preferences: I enjoy both morning and night; it all depends on certain things, as do the colors I see.
ReplyDeleteThere are other pictures like this one, but probably none as extreme, as the article says. Here is one of my favorite optical illusions: the Penrose Staircase. http://wordsculptures.com/page/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/illusion.jpg
Oops, I pasted the wrong link! If anyone wants to see the Penrose Staircase illusion, here it is: http://www.wired.com/2010/08/the-never-ending-stories-inceptions-penrose-staircase/
DeleteThis picture had my family, my friends, and I arguing about the color of the dress. At first when I saw the image, it look as if it were black and blue. Later on I saw it as gold and white. I truly do believe that this deals with the wavelengths, because the lighting that I was in when I saw the picture was different form later on when I saw the picture again. I am definitely a morning person and have seen both, so I think that this is because of the different lightings that I saw the image. I do know that there are other images out there of optical allusions. After I look at some of them, this one was my favorite.
ReplyDeletehttp://d3819ii77zvwic.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/like-lsd-not-animated.jpg
The dress is actually blue and black. (http://vid.alarabiya.net/images/2015/02/27/093b27d8-ca6e-4ecc-8c52-d6b6ca1290db/093b27d8-ca6e-4ecc-8c52-d6b6ca1290db.jpg)
ReplyDeleteHowever, most of the time I see it as white and gold, though sometimes I occasionally see it as blue and black!
I don’t really know where to find cool, original optical illusions, but I found this artist who does weird perspective-y photo manipulations. All the pictures were taken by them and then edited in Photoshop to look the way that they do!
http://alltelleringet.deviantart.com/art/The-Architect-515046665
I think that it is pretty ridiculous that this picture gained fame so quickly. I have always seen the dress as black and blue even though I am more of an early riser than a night owl. I thought people were crazy when they said the dress was white and gold, so it is good there is an explanation for it. All I have learned from this is that nothing is more satisfying than being right about the dress and having your "white and gold" friends admit they were wrong;)
ReplyDeleteHere is another cool optical illusion I found that is driving me crazy:
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UHeWhxWehfk/UevlKDIYrjI/AAAAAAAAAIo/yOTddY9mWKk/s1600/3D-Illusions-Street-Art-8-620x412.jpg

When I first looked at the photo of the dress, I immediately saw blue and black. I could not wrap my mind around the fact that people saw white and gold! I then saw it again on social media and saw white and gold. I thought I was going insane; how could I see it one color one day then a different color the next? I then found that if I looked at bright artificial light (like the bright white light on my laptop screen) then back to the dress, I saw it white and gold. If I looked at the surrounding light in the background of the dress (a warm light that mimics sunlight) I saw it blue and black. I read in the article that night owls see it as blue and black, while early birds see it as white and gold. I would have to agree with this because I saw it blue and black first, and I am typically a night owl. I have heard many theories on why people see the different colors, but also found that the dress is, in fact, blue and black. The optical illusion below really confused me at first, but then I really thought about it and figured out the lines truly are the same length!

I thought that this dress has been causing a huge uproar in social media. Should we be worrying about what color an ugly dress is, or should we be worrying about global warming? Personally, I think the whole concept of “the dress” is stupid. Even though the dress is really blue and black, I still saw white and gold. I don’t know why I saw white and gold because I will never be a morning person. I think there are other images out there like this one, but not many since the article said this is a rare case.

I think that this whole dress thing is really interesting. I see gold and white and as many times as I look at it, I can't seem to see black and blue. I think that there are, in fact, images that look different based on the wave of light. I don't know how people see blue and black, because I definitely see gold and white! Here is a really interesting optical allusion from brain games! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=V8cXTHz_o2o
ReplyDeleteI heard about the dress from my sister the night before it became a huge thing on the internet. At first, my sister showed my mom and I the dress and we both said that the dress is white and gold but my sister saw the black and blue. We thought she was crazy and was colorblind. But then the next day when more people started too talk about it and I looked at the photo again, the dress was black and blue for me. It was scary because as I was looking at the blue and black dress, I was stunned so I kept looking at it and it literally changed from black and blue to white and gold. The same thing happened for me 2 more times. But now all I see is the white and gold.
ReplyDeleteIn the article it states that the dress true color is Blue and Black, which is what I see. Based on the interpretations of wavelengths I know that there are other pictures out there like the dress. They would be related to how people see the object at certain angles and different lighting background colors. Other cases would be that the person is colorblind and may or may not be able to determine the difference between similar colors like red and pink.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.pomakis.com/opticalIllusions/cushion5.png
This image shows how different patterns and colors trick our minds into thinking that the lines are curved when really they are all straight.
I saw the dress as being gold and white. When I saw the darker image on the right that has more of a blue like shading my brain seems to perceive that as if the dress is in a shadow. It seems like the dress is obviously gold and white to me, which is surprising because it really isn't. The differences in color that people see is, in my opinion, caused by no one being quite the same, therefore no one has quite the same vision.
ReplyDeleteI see the dress as white and gold, it boggles me that some people can see blue and black when looking at this picture! This website has a list of some pretty trippy illusions that hurt your hind to think about! http://illusionoftheyear.com/cat/top-10-finalists/2014/
ReplyDeleteIn the dress I see blue and black and I get very confused when someone says white and gold because i just don't see it at all. And I do think there are tons of different images that are interpreted differently by the brain. And I'm a night owl so it is a bit accurate. An interesting optical illusion i found was this-http://www.theganghut.co.uk/pics/illusion/anomalousmotion.png
ReplyDeleteI think it is really interesting that a dress went viral. To me it is really just another optical illusion. When I saw the true picture of the dress I saw it as blue and gold. For this reason I think there are multiple ways to see the dress besides the common blue and black or white and gold. Everyone is different, obviously, so when it comes to optical illusions like this our minds will interpret it a little differently every time.

I agree, because I feel everyone views this dress differently based of the wavelengths, and it's truly interesting how fast this picture spread throughout a 24 hour time period.
DeleteI see the picture as gold and white but I have also witnessed many others who think differently. http://fromthelandofoz.com/rp-019-weird-chess-match is a website of an optical illusion. Lastly, I think that this picture depends on the lighting or source because I have actually seen it being blue in black on another phone.
ReplyDeleteI see the dress as white and gold and honestly cannot see how someone can see it as blue and black. I found another optical illusion online:http://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/s--2EwhmEK8--/c_fit,fl_progressive,q_80,w_636/18dn0j58dv0wtjpg.jpg
ReplyDeleteOk, I see white and gold. I know in real life that the dress is blue, but when I was first shown the picture I could have sworn that the dress was white and gold. I have researched why I see white and gold and others see the true color blue and black and have decided that it is because of the light. In the picture the light reflects off the dress and depending on how you look at the picture, you may see white and gold, or a mixture of blue and gold. Another thing to consider is that the picture is a close up image of the dress. You can't see other objects in the picture to fully decide the color of the dress; you have nothing to go on. I am a night owl, but I see white and gold... Anyone else?

ReplyDeleteStare at the center dot and the yellow dots will disappear and reappear.
This whole topic has gotten really annoying because people get into big arguments on what color the dress is when it really is just the wavelengths that you see. When I look at this dress I see white and gold. Yes, I think that there are other pictures that look different to many people based on the different wavelengths they see. I would be considered an early riser because I see the dress as white and gold. Overall, this is a really interesting topic because you can see things different then others because of different wavelengths.
ReplyDeleteThis entire idea is so hard for me to wrap my head around and I find it so confusing. I saw the dress as white and gold the first time I saw it, but every other time I have seen it as blue and black. Also, it amazes me that this dress went viral so fast and basically everyone knew about it within the day it was posted. Considering I have seen the dress as blue and black every time except the first, I would probably be a night owl.
ReplyDeleteI had First heard about this dress waking up last Monday morning it was the only thing that was being talked about across five or six radio stations. When i went to go see for myself what all the talk was about the only color i could see was blue and black. later that same night i looked back at the picture and saw it as white and gold at first i thought it was a completely different photo but when i looked away and back it changed before my eyes. I am sure there are many other pictures like this one out there it depends on how the light is hitting the dress and how it reflects the light.
ReplyDeleteThis is a picture of a painted semi truck that was transporting beer. All i know is i would not want to be the one behind him. http://www.coolopticalillusions.com/painted-beer-truck-illusion-and-painted-pepsi-truck-illusion/
I definitely see the dress as black and blue, but I'm not a night owl by any means. I usually don't stay up TOO late, and then I like to get up pretty early in the morning.
ReplyDeleteHere's another illusion that "tricks" your eyes. The gray stripe appears to be lighter on the left side and darker on the right, when really it is the same color throughout: http://www.coolopticalillusions.com/funny-optical-illusion-gray-stripe/
I have seen both colors when looking at the same picture of the dress. I feel there are different pictures out there with different lighting behind the picture changing the way some see it. I also think that based on where you are or what you're doing has effect on what color you see, because I have been in different places with different lighting and saw the other color of the dress.

I see the dress as blue and black, I don't see how people can see it as white and gold. I've tried everything to try and see the dress as white and gold but I can't! I really like optical illusions and I could probably stare at them all day but I didn't find this amusing and I don't understand why everyone is making such a big deal over it. But that's none of my business. I thought this was pretty cool though...http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http%3A%2F%2Fvtv1.vcmedia.vn%2Fk%3A2015%2Fjulian-beever-3d-optical-illusion-chalk-drawing-friends-1422524663290%2Fchiem-nguong-nhung-hinh-anh-3d-ky-ao-tren-duong-pho.jpg&imgrefurl=http%3A%2F%2Fvtv.vn%2Fthe-gioi-do-day%2Fchiem-nguong-nhung-hinh-anh-3d-ky-ao-tren-duong-pho-20150129170223149.htm&docid=yLhpfMFuxsynZM&tbnid=FLZqFilUESRH0M&w=600&h=400&ei=Z9b5VK2bMtSwyASN7IDYCg&ved=0CAcQxiAwBQ&iact=c
ReplyDeleteI remember the first time I saw the picture I saw it as blue and black. I rushed upstairs to show my sister and when I looked at it again I saw gold and white. Ever since then I’ve seen the dress as white and gold. I think that it is amazing how our brains and eyes have been able to evolve to see color in the world of sunshine we live in. I definitely think that there are more photos like this out there, but it’s just crazy how fast this certain one happened to spread and affect so many people.

When i first looked at the dress i saw blue and black right away, but then i saw an edit pf th dress on a black background and could only see white and gold. I defiantly think it has something to do with the way that our eyes respond to light and the kind of background it's set in, but personally i also believe that if you see blue and black the first time, your mind is going to be pretty set on seeing blue and black from that point on. Same goes for seeing white and gold the first time.
ReplyDeleteWell if seeing is believing then I believe that the dress is white and gold. Their theory makes sense but at the end of the day its an opinion based blog and it is just a theory. Until it has been proved by multiple credible sources then its not true and if it is to be seen as true then i guess everything on Wikipedia must also be true. I think items that show different images to people would have to be pearlescent colored items because people can never tell what color they are especially if the suns out. I find it funny they try to rationalize it with sleep because I have problems sleeping so I’m up most nights yet I still see white and gold.
ReplyDeleteI see the dress as black and blue in some pictures but in others I see it as white and gold so I personally think that it depends on the picture and how the cones and rods in your eyes perceive light. I do not know much about light wave lengths and things within that matter but it could be possible that it could change how you see the dress.
